WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2018

I think I'm going to have to rethink my climbing rose idea. I bought the rose as bare roots and kept it for a couple of months in a builder's bucket in situ. When I finally planted out a week or so ago I found there were no fresh roots shooting. I planted it out anyway in hope of improvement. I was painting the fence this afternoon and I noticed as of 5pm when I packed away, the sun hadn't risen high enough to clear the fence. I would assume that's why the rose hasn't taken.

I pruned off all the dying wisteria blooms on the pergola on the back of the house.

I've a choice, each year a daily sweep up for a week or so of the next lot to fall dodging around the dozen or so patio pots with a brush or the garden vac, or getting up there on a ladder with a pair of secateurs.
Of course my wife doesn't like me going up a ladder at my age particularly when wearing my Wyevale plastic garden clogs. So for the first time, I put on the new work boots I bought a few months ago, the ones with the reinforced toes. I found putting them on the more arduous task!

I gave everything a really good watering and the lawn some iron sulphate.

I also got round to doing a job I'd been meaning to tackle for some time.
Our tea-house is a "temporary building," in that it sits on several of two courses of loose laid brick piers on flagstones.
For the last ten years it's had two 3cwt jukeboxes in it. The smallest is in the right-hand back corner and I'd noticed a while back that it didn't look quite straight. Putting a spirit level on the top of this jukebox indicated a slight dip to the right corner. So I got my car jack out and lifted up the rear right corner and slid in some packing under the rear beam and a thinner piece under the support further along. It was no more than half an inch adrift, but it's straight now.

 

Rushed about this morning to beat the heat, 5 lawns and a small hedge cut.
Having lunch next door as a thank you for cleaning her patio on Monday which will go down well.

No its always been there another part you might not have seen my satellite dish base i will be putting a large dish on it soon.

 

Martin the other colour was a nice carm colour...this ones more striking to the eye but you know the saying it comes in 3s mate

 

Very hot here today . Fiddled around with the gravelled area and fiddled around with the bark chip area either side of willow tree. Still needs ' something '. Did some more weeding on gravel bit.

Had a delivery of some Frogbit and Water Soldiers today. Now in pond along with the free Ramshorn snail .

Made a start on weeding bench seat area in front garden. There is a small flower bed next to the bench, which needs a bit of attention. Currently has a large Fern and a few spring bulbs. It gets mostly dappled light and a little bit of direct light at midday. Also a bit on the dry side. Not sure what I want to plant there yet.

Had a look at this and then walked away. Not even Roger's petrol beast will go through it now, needs the strimmer on it first. It's knee high in places. The garden we managed to reclaim last year is disappearing quite rapidly . It's growing faster than I can keep up . Sat in shade on patio and sulked for rest of afternoon.
