We are growing strawberries that taste like pineapples and they are known as Pineberries. The flowers are the same size as normal red ones and the fruit are bigger than the alpine sort with the fruit being a whitish colour that never go red only each individual pip on the outside of the strawberry goes red. When I get some harvested if the birds don’t eat them I will put up a photo of them:biggrin:

@Pushkin You've done a good job on those conifers - presumeably Cham. Ellwoodii. :blue thumb:

Although it's usually best not to cut them like that unless you're prepared to keep tying them in. :) They have a habit of opening up, especially if there's snow on them. :rolleyespink:

@Pushkin At the moment the birds were only interested in the red ones but now that Mr Kandy has netted them I wonder if they will try the Pineberry ones. Also the Blackbirds are trying to get to Mr Kandys Red Currants but because they are also netted they are getting a bit frustrated:snorky:

When I have too many strawberries I freeze them and then eat them like frozen sweets one at a time:biggrin: They taste lovely just like fresh ones but if I let them defrost like raspberries then they taste bitter and then I don’t like them so Mr Kandy will have them on top of his morning cereals:snorky:

We are not great jam eaters only eating one or two jars per year so never make jam.The only thing I do like more though is Lemon Curd and it always has to be Gales unless I see some home made Lemon Curd on holiday then will buy some to try:biggrin:

@Kandy you could always plant some for you and your hubby and some for the Blackbirds :) I have done this but the Blackbirds and I haven't decided which strawberry plant we are going to have. I strongly suspect the Blackies are going to try and pilfer off my plant :snorky:.

No sharing mentallity for blackbirds...here anyway. Once they get a taste of any fruit they are relentless. That said, I think they are my favourite bird....lovely song, nice to look at and at ease with me in the garden :)
Blueberries already been netted, strawberries too. Gooseberries? Well we like them green so the birds lose out there. Blackcurrants? Again I pick regularly as soon as they turn black but still firm

They are Chamaecyparis lawsoniana Ellwood's Pillar but they were just getting too tall.
I've already removed three of them (the ones in between) as they were almost touching.
I started topping them a few years back.
Their days are numbered as I've got some Cupressus sempervirens growing that I may replace them with.
My other option is yew pillars.

@luciusmaximus When I am picking the strawberries if there are any I find that are not quiet perfect ie the Blackbirds have had a peck of them before they were netted I pick them then throw them onto a bare piece of ground where I know they will see them so they are getting fed.I shall no doubt share my Raspberries with them as we have far too many to net so I don’t mind them having a few:biggrin:

When we popped over to the Lottie Sunday teatime when we got back home The was a hedgehog wandering around in the heat but I didn’t want to interfere with its ramblings as I thought it might have youngsters somewhere so i provided it with some water but only had some peanuts in the shed which I fill the bird feeders so threw some down but they were still there when we went over there on Monday:smile:

Must dash Springwatch has just started:biggrin:

Yes it was warm.:phew: I went over some very long grass and it cut out. It took me a long time to figure out how to reset the circuit breaker.:snorky:
Hubby did show me a week ago, but forgot about the button on the other side.:snorky:

I've just got in from tying plants in, sunflowers, delphiniums etc. Apparently there's a storm, or windy weather :rolleyespink: coming.
Seriously though, I don't think we'll have it too bad, I'm hoping no one else does either :fingers crossed:
