    I defied the Ban!
    Am I a criminal....I dont feel like a criminal...in fact I feel rather smug and bolshie, not unlike yesterday morning, before the so called ban...I was up at 2am sticking two fingers up at the establishment (metaphorically speaking) who cares if next doors brats go without their Ribena (it rots your teeth anyway):rasp: my plants need water...and they sure as hell shall have it...my rates bill is colossal and "they" even state that there is no shortage in water quantities, just the distribution network is under strain...well...how about using some of the money collected from the good folks who go to work on a daily basis and pay their way in life to upgrade the system which by "their" own admittance is failing and maybe just maybe I wont have to run around the green carpet at 2am like some kind of cat burglar...
    NB..it was bloody cooler to do it at that time anyway and seeing as most folks would have been tucked up in the land of nod, then little old me wouldn't have been putting too much of a strain on their antiquated system

      @kazzawazza

      You just have enough time to plant them outdoors if you wish but this drought will not be good for them.

      Carrie Thomas used to hold the national collection of Aquilegias but her plants were devastated by the horrible disease of Aquilegia Downy Mildew. We also lost virtually all of ours at the same time (calculated at somewhere between 4,000 and 6,000 :sad:)

      Hints from Touchwood for sowing aquilegia (granny bonnets/columbine) seeds

      If you sow them in trays/pots then a possible way to keep them going, if you can't get anyone to look after them for you, is to use a piece of capillary matting and sit the pots/trays on it and have the end dangling in a bowl of water.

      They can be quite colourful en-masse and they self-seed easily.

        Jeeze @shiney thats just awesome...I planted some seeds in two little biodegradable pots..there is a clump of small leaves now (pic to follow) they took ages to germinate but germinate they eventually did. What should I do now to get an impressive array like your image above...
        they sat in a tray of water the whole time and look very healthy. I thnk they are too clumped together but I'm loathed to separate them as they are so delicate

          Not an aquilegia fan but that is impressive Shiney :)

          Tempted to dig up a couple of plants not up to the mark this year. A sanguisorba, normally 6' high, is barely half that this year, so it will be divided and potted up. I have some nice replacements to hand.

          Another even hotter day to come:SUNsmile:

              @BigC The simple answer, from our point of view, is let them do their own thing (after the initial planting out) and give them time - although it took quite a few years. We used to have them everywhere in the garden

              This lot were in the veg plot and used to attract all the pollinators for the veggies.

                    and I shall afford them the credit they deserve as and when I come across these wonderful spaces..(I am a fairly new member) My garden is dull by comparison it needs a little colour..yes it has colour in places but there is something missing somehow it needs to gel more I reckon...so when I see something I like or may fit the bill I will comment, nobody will receive any negativity from me whatsoever...and I'm sure you have a stunning garden @Gail_68 also

                        A lot of the year our garden is mainly just green (or variegated) but as we have a lot of space I can usually find something colourful to show off with! :snorky:

                          Damnation! My clematis Florida Sieboldii is looking good here from the kitchen window so warranted a picture but a pair of my bright blue pants in the background is hanging on the line like an intruder at the party. It means I have to get up and move them but I am sooo comfy :noidea:Ah well! Another time:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

                          All this talk of water shortages. What will be will be but, for me, its all about mulching. It goes a long way to conserve moisture!:)
