Today I B&Q I saw paving sand. It supposedly fills the cracks and sets hard, stifling weeds. Does anybody have any experience of this?

Gary just asked hubby about this as he used to work with the stuff...he said you need 5 parts sharp sand to one part cement mixed thoroughly dry...then brush in between gaps with a soft brush, this will need doing several times to make sure they're fully filled and then the damp air at night does the rest by hardening it off.

Spent the morning doing some cleaning in doors, went out side and did the bird baths and put water to the plants that need it, then went on the front and removed more roots from my Cordylines besides trimming dead rose heads....my weeping willow needs doing but the heat was to extreme

 

A dip in the sea, a cold lager and a perusal of the forum...very civilised

It is even hotter than yesterday...hardly any breeze at all.

Despite the heat, I dug up a below-par performing sanguisorba (too dry a spot) and replaced it with gaura Papillion.......cuttings taken in autumn and now plants filling 5 litre pots. Dug up a dahlia in the wrong place.....labels must have been mixed up...and replaced it with what should have been there. Tied in Clematis etoile Violette....with care as it is blooming beautifully......and picked salad stuff.

Got to be the best time of year

 

I went to x2 garden centres early this morning after I picked up my 60mm Bamboo stake
Came home with

• Ceanothus Impressus Victoria
• Salvia 'Amistad'
• Silver Jubilee Rose

and wait for it quack quack
A Duck
yes you heard correctly "a Duck" (vivid arts variety) complete with 3 ducklings

 

But that's quackers BigC
Victoria is an excellent variety of ceanothus

Picked more blackcurrants. Need to get some clotted cream, Cornish of course!

 

@BigC the plants should be alright, how about some pics of the ducks?

 

Pricked out 30 cosmos purity, sowed late, I had loads of saved seed and thought they would be good for gaps
Lots of watering, some dead heading and a bit of gossiping with a neighbour and a nice cuppa
Much more pleasant outside today, a breeze makes a lot of difference

 

Not sure if it counts as a "job", but educating the neighbours across the road on music mixes. (Thinking of the "them and us" thread...)
We'd just finished having some bbqed duck fillet for tea, and I went for a wander up the garden. Sound of a party starting across the road (older teenagers, and French Belgians....). "Hmmm" I thought "better check the letterbox...". Sure enough, they will be celebrating tonight, so apologise in advance for any disturbance.
Do we fret? Do we rant? No! Time to do a 80's disco mix for the patio. Where are Five Star now?! Arethra F, Billy Ocean, Earth, Wind and Fire.... not loud (hopefully won't be disturbing the neighbours below us,) but loud enough to mask the hip-hip-hip "music" coming across the street. Pass the rum, sit back, and watch the bats fly against the starry sky.

Had the day off today so pottered round the garden. Got the two agapanthus navy blue planted, had to find new homes for the aquilegia which they replaced. Cut off all the seed heads off the aquilegia before they take over. replaced a primula millers crimson with primula vailli, I do like millers crimson but it not as good / big as primula bullesiana, MCrimson flowers earlier as well so it doesn't match up with other plants.

Watched the footy france v argi and had a walked round and admired the roses then planted the melons in the GH border, hopefully they do better this year. Tidy up the greenhouse it was a tip where empty pots and just been thrown around. Potted on a monarda scorpion and acotium stainless steel and planted up a small pot with petunia and lobelia. Been tasting the strawberries which variety is best it changes every visit, had my first raspberry as well it tasted ok but very dry. Sister been round and stole some currants / gooseberries, says she making jam

Watched the other footy match and back out into the GH while the weather had cooled down enough to sit inside and prick out the wallflowers and some bedding stocks. Like everybody else been round watering the pots.

 

This music I can listen to all day mate
