Oh my, I've been doing that for years and never thought about any reason for doing so other than returning the residue to the earth. I also roughly crunch and add eggshells to my garden. I bake a lot and copious amounts go in. Hmmm, my hostas don't have any holes . I guess it's all good.

I did save some ash for my smokey water as recommended by @pete for my king protea seeds. I am so glad that you, Pete, are cheering me on for my stripes.... today marks 31 days since I started them. Only 60 or so to go to find out if I failed. :)

I've done my two hours weeding this morning. It was lovely working in the warm (not hot) sunshine with a nice breeze blowing. :)

Weeding, staking, picking blackberries, gooseberries, blueberries, transplanting, mowing, pruning.....all of these done by 5 this morning......at least they were in my head as
I traipsed the beach considering the work I have to do today; or maybe can be delayed until tomorrow. Hard work this thinking lark! :noidea:

Covering the blueberries with fleece to try and stop the blackbirds from eating them first.

Sssssh! I can trust you lot right??? :)

I picked the last of the blueberries today......eating loads in the process. Then my niece rang, "have you still got boueberries there?. The last lot were delicious". Not enough left so I nipped down to my local greengrocer and bought 2 large punnets. I will claim them as my own when I see my niece later. All in a noble cause, right?:noidea:
