@Verdun my hubby put the Astilbes by the fencing and there's only this area where the sun moves out the way quickly...just before dinner but they've been in the shade all day crossed they should hopefully kick off and the grasses was surrounded by 3 different coloured heathers

You might like to check out 2 newish astilbes Gail......Shogun with lovely red/purple foliage all summer long; will try to post a picture. Also Cappucinno......thick white plumes of flowers over dark foliage in spring.

Lots of bees and butterflies in the garden today......esp on heleniums. I have A.Black Adder adjacent to Helenium Moreheim Beauty and between them I lost count of the bees visiting them. Sad to admit I am not hot on butterflies but a few highly colourful ones here too today .

 

Verdun I actually adore seeing your plants but if I go buying again ….it's your fault

I need plants for total sun though and you mays well say acid soil...as I have shoulders broad enough to take the blame because where I've put the Astilbes that area is taken up and hubby as got in to this...taking shots and now wants to add plants to pots and space them around plus wants me to try seeds next year.

Are the shotguns white?....the Cappuccino is a stunner

I already suggested gauras......stunning plants and would look great in your gravel beds; Potentillas Everest and Abbotswood....potentillas would look very good there in summer, echinacea White Swan, salvia Snow Hill, etc....all,would would look good, thrive and need very little attention

A day or showers and sunshin....feeling warm.

Finished my pond V.2.0. this time with a proper liner Nearly fell in (twice), to the great amusement of the neighbour's kids. Made a wise observation: if you are making a new flower bed and a pond in a corner behind it, it's a good idea to make the pond first. Discovered that brambles have thorns and bees get drunk on fallen fruit. I didn't get stung but am sure I heard the bees giggle whilst watching me spreading the liner. Glad to be able to offer entertainment for the small ones!

Still on my to-do-if-I-feel-like-it-list is grass cutting, general weeding and pottering about and sitting on the bench admiring the new pond. Finding some bits of slate I'm sure are somewhere.

There is an old concrete washing post which we are trying to dig out. This will be part of the new pond. Also pulling out some nettles from other designated pond area and adding them to the compost pile. Picked some nettle leaves for the freezer for cooking.
