WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2018

@Kandy i have mildew on my aqualigia, they'll be fine.
I always don't get round to dead heading them.

 

Moved my pots of hostas from the flower beds to overwinter down the bottom of the garden. I may split some of them in the spring. The new sack barrow came into its own when moving 10 heavy pots. Money well spent.

Finally found the time to get the camellia (Nucios cameo) and two rhododendrons (Scarlet wonder) in the ground this afternoon, moving the number of completely altered and/or brand new beds in the back garden this year to 5.

The first batch of bulbs followed soon after (an assortment of Tête-à-têtes, dwarf crocuses, tulips and snowdrops) in the hope that the garden wakes up a little earlier in the new year than it has in the five since we moved here.

Just the small matter of all the pots and then the front garden, to be given their batch of bulbs, in the coming days. Then comes turning what is currently a rather comically large roll of bubble wrap into insulation panels for the greenhouse. I don't think we'll need to put them up anytime soon, but may as well make use of the dry and relatively warm weather and get the panels cut ready.

 

Planted 42 wallflowers, only 260 to go.
Also 5 polyanthus, white and yellow.

 

@shiney Thanks for that info about the Downey Mildew.Our plants were fine until we went away and they were like it when we got back home.I always thought it was due to dryness at the roots and no air flow so will have to have a good read of your link to see if that is the cause

@Logan I am pulling up a lot of mine as they have seeded everywhere and getting to the stage where they are swamping other plants so am having a good clear out of them.I expect they are like weeds,one years seeding is seven years weeding

Have also got it on some of my Pulmonaria plants as well but O don’t mind getting rid of them as they also have spread everywhere

 

@Kandy i always pull mine up before they go to seed. I replace them with pot marigolds for the summer, a low growing variety.

 

My Pulmonaria often gets mildew at this time of the year but recovers without any treatment from me, don't panic it will be fine in a few weeks time. What a blow @shiney loosing a huge collection of Aquilegia. Has nobody come up with a cure yet?

 

It was all rather bizarre spending the warmest afternoon in weeks cutting bubble wrap ready to insulate the greenhouse. Managed to get two and a half sides ready before running out of sunlight, so will hopefully get the rest ready and in the storage box tomorrow.
