WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2018

Yesterday I was doing the last cut on a lawn with a small slope but it’s covered in moss. Finished the cut but managed to slip on the moss. My old knee that took ages to heal is back to square one so out with the pain killers again.

My young knee has come out in sympathy for my young back, young shoulder, young ankle...................

I wish that I hadn't been so stupid in my youth!

 

Well I've got a middle aged hip, two middle aged knees, a middle aged back, a shoulder and three fingers all out in symphony with each other.

 

Today the plan is to work down the area to be planted with garlic and broad beans, the usual clearing and tidying for this time of year, spread mulch on flower beds and then level newly cleared area prior to laying out new flower bed and top fruit area.

 

I had a day off so finally cleared Cosmos, dug up Dahlias and planted tulips. Chucked in some early daffs and late double tulips in the big container where Kafka Dahlia flowered all summer. I keep forgetting how very vigorous Cosmos can be, the lot was taller than me and filled the bin plus leftover pile. All that mass of growth from a 39p packet of seeds

The best Cosmos flowers are now in a bucket since the vases are filled with last Dahlia flowers and Gladioli.

Put up some solar lights in shrubs. The on-off switch didn't feel like it was doing anything so we'll see if the lights come on or not. Way too challenging technical set up!

Had a busy old week in the garden and up on the lotty. Cleared a load of old cosmos, butternut squash, courgette and beans off the lotty and cleared away apple tree leaves etc. Need to get some red onion sets and get them in asap and plant my big elephant garlic out. Got to pick my leeks too and will freeze them.

Back garden project nearly done. I had a huge pallet of compost delivery which I put in all the new raised beds on top of the big manure layer at the bottom. Just need to trim the raised bed liners now and then it's all ready for planting up.

I am so undecided as to what exactly to plant in it. I want to make the patio area a separate area using the plants as a bit of height for privacy. Whatever I do end up putting in it, it will be a joy to plant up compared to the clay borders!
