Been chiseling out the old pergola posts today so I can reslab where the virginia creeper and old posts have been, only managed 5 of the 6 posts before the rain came in, Don't know if I can get the slabs clean again, I'll wait for spring and give them a good scrub

Another day getting scratched to ribbons pruning the native hedge around the chicken paddock. Managed to get most of the hedge cut in one day. Last year it was cut back hard and took 4 or 5 days to complete. Looks like the effort to reduce its height last year has made this years task easier.

With the cold night temperatures it is time to bring the orchids indoors to spend the winter in grow tents under LED grow lights.

What type of led lights are you using? Daylight rather than cool white, led tube or regular led lightbulbs?
Reason i ask is im planning on using 4000k cool white led tube producing 800 lumen per bulb.
            Tia. :blue thumb:

For the orchids indoors I have found that it is best to use the smallest LED grow light that I have, which is a 90-watt red/blue UFO light.

I have found that a 150 watt light, even set to just vegetative spectrum, will be too bright and cause red tint to appear on the leaves.

The photoperiod is set to be the same as the local sunrise and sunset, the height of the light is adjusted to provide 500 footcandles at plant level, which should be ideal with the red/blue spectrum.

In my younger days a friend made me an unbreakable trowel. Weighed a ton and I loved it.
It lasted for several years...until I broke it :noidea:
I have broken most every garden tool on a regular basis ARMANDII

I have a mixture of garden tools some modern and some old. I actually have two Hoes that were given to me by a Arley Hall gardener and are over 110 years and get a working out when needed. The wood shafts are soaked in Linseed Oil to maintain their strength and it seems to work. My greatest gardening "sin" is, when working in the borders, using hand trowels and forks, to put tools down, then move to another area and when returning to the first area to get the tools being unable to find them:doh: And, as is the Gardener's Sod's Law on buying new ones, finding the "lost" hand tools the day after.:wallbanging::gaah: I now have around 5 Hand Trowels and Forks in the collection........but still managed to regularly lose one or two every year only to find them later on.:heehee:
