Popped out to Lidl for some dahlia tuber but they didn't have them . Went to B&M for raspberry's, didn't have the two variety's I wanted  but did have a second option Polka in stock £4.50 in 3.5litre pot not sure if that's dear are not. Picked up a terracootta pot 33cm £4.99 for the African Queen lily's, should of got another for the Eucomis Sparkling Burgundy only realised when I got home . B&m are getting a lot of stock in now, they haven't had any new gardening stuff in since last August -September.

Looks like a trip to the gardening centre for me tomorrow.

Got home and cleaned the secateurs and pruned the gooseberry and 2 red and 1 white currants, pulled some Ivy out, watched R Federer and football and looked through claire austin website for plants.

I planted up the tray of Primroses I bought a few days ago. Then decided start potting up the pond plants I bought. I used the same type of basket, same gravel, same compost as when I potted up the Pickeral Rush. I did nothing different in the way I potted up. And yet when I lowered the new plant ( Spearwort ) into the pond the compost leached out of the basket and the water is now very muddy in colour. It was previously clear. Nothing came out when I out the Pickeral in. Why :wallbanging:. Debating whether to bail out pond tomorrow as it will take weeks and weeks for it all to settle.

I would let it settle now lucius and dont fret about it. :)
Did you use pond basket? Did you use hessian......I use both? Did you use aquatic compost? Did you top with gravel? Did you submerge the plant gently?
It is normal for soil to muddy the water initially :)
Despite the beautiful weather  I did nothing in the garden. Painting instead. Painted the bungalow all round today .... big bungalow too...and will second coat it tomorrow. Just a 20 min break for lunch. Job done and garden will still be there so I'm well satisfied.
Now to see what you guys are saying on the forum!

I gave mine a good coat of looking at, but did nothing, apart from taking these photos.

We've had a few nice ones lately.

Yes, to all of the above, except I didn't bother with the hessian. The Pickeral Rush was just fine, a few air bubbles and it settled. I know the water will clear eventually but I have more plants to put in and they need to sit on bricks but I can't see what I'm doing :wallbanging:. I think I will have to take some of the water out so I can at least see where to place the bricks.

To add to my frustration my pond liner was delivered today and because I must have been in the garden or elsewhere in house and didn't see or hear the courier he took it away. There is a note on door asking for parcels to be left in porch but because it required a signature it wasn't left :gaah:. Supposed to be re delivered tomorrow.

The hessian helps in my opinion lucius :) Agree about draining some of the water, take your time. It will be worth all the effort Im sure:)

Been to the beach lately lucius?
I went early this morning.......sunny, warm, blue sky and sea, gentle white surf and so peaceful. Set me up for a busy morning and some gardening later

I finally felt up to a bit of pottering today.

                      07A211DA-3342-4807-8B9D-AD8E97423A51.jpeg

I trimmed away the old dahlia stems to make room for the tulips. I planted 6 bulbs in each of the 2 pots and they are all shooting nicely.

I trimmed the old stems of the shasta daisy. I was pleased to find that there was plenty of green to cut back to.

I have all sorts of shoots coming up in my garden that I am looking forward to seeing open,

I also weeded a section of gravel and trimmed the front hedge. Its nice to be able to get back into it.

I have my first daffodil of the season. There was previously a small clump of blind daffodils here. They have since been replaced with fresh ones. So far they are looking good. The snowdrops in there seem to be a bit timid but to be fair they are brand new. I’m sure they will beef out as the years progress.

Had a sort out of the ceramic pots, swopped two of the ones in which we had roses on the patio, which were olive green and brown, for the pots in which I had the tree azaleas at the bottom of the garden. This gave the tree azaleas slightly bigger pots and pretty much all dozen or so patio pots will now be olive green. (more OCD) Gave "anything in a pot that was showing a shoot or two," a bit of feed. Cleaned out the birdbath and the Pyrex water dishes for the birds.

Put a waterproof socket on the garage wall under the guttering, near the patio. It'll be easier when I'm doing anything electrical at that end of the garden.

Did a bit of leaf collection, have to be so careful now as a lot of stuff is coming up. Need to get another clematis for one that died in the corner of the bed nearest the house. Had to order a new doorbell for the front door. "It's been rung so often by delivery men bringing my wife's shopping channel purchases," it's given up the ghost. So more things to do tomorrow.

I agree with Verdun about the use of Hessian in crates/containers when planting Marginal plants as it stops compost/soil from leaking out. I used these types of containers with the holes in the sides
upload_2018-2-21_19-13-19.jpeg and other small containers like it that you can get cheaply from Wilco's and Aldi's. I usually use a piece of Hessian big enough to line the container in one go, but several smaller pieces would do the job equally well. That allows the roots of the plants to work through the Hessian and eventually through the holes in the container sides so the plant isn't doesn't become root bound while also allowing the pond water to give nutrients to the plant.
I also used Gravel on the top of the container compost/soil to keep it from floating off. Most of my Marginal plants are still in the original plastic crates that I put in the pond back in '93 so that's value for money!!:heehee:

24 pages of catching up.. :thud: Wow @wiseowl it's looking good! Glad you decided to reinstate a water feature

Have mostly been tidying up this week, builders are coming in Monday to start on the boundary wall :yay:

Moved all empty pots to a bag ready to be washed and put to good use, got rid of half a wheelie bin of rubbish, took a few bits to the tip and give it a sweep. Still got a few pots and fence panels to jig about before they come.

I'm fully expecting a mud pit this year as the other half wants a man shed at the back after the wall goes in, plus fence panels need to be put in on my other neighbours' side.. so the border I made last year will be a mud pit too.. meh! I'll stick to the allotment!
