Yesterday potted on 87 polyanthus plants. Didn't know that I had so many.

Pinched back wallflowers, again, and stocks yesterday. Makes for bushier plants ....they will still produce 80 to 90 cm bushes....and delays flowering only briefly.:)
Buxus microphylla variegata moved to accommodate daphne odora aureo marginata.:)

Today has been mainly cutting stuff back. Lower leaves of the Cordylines pulled off (strangely satisfying job). Ligularia, sedums, fennel cut down. Gunera leaves folded over the crown, lower T Rex leaves cut off. Fruit trees prunded. Then harvested the last of the seed from mina lobata

Got the ceramic pot ready for the replacement "tree rose" I'm getting from T&M which will be delivered next week.

It was one of these. We'd only had it a couple of months when a strong wind blew the grafted rose off the trunk. it wasn't a very secure graft.

            P1010638.JPG

Wired our Stella cherry, new to us last year. Used some plastic clothes line, so it won't rub. It did well last year with a lot of foliage.

            P1020048.JPG

Not sure if it will fruit next year, might be too early.
As with a lot of plants, the shape was less than satisfactory, one or two crossing branches that were also rubbing.
This treatment will help it achieve a more regular shape, when I remove the restraints in April.

With the new patio and hard areas nearly finished my impatience got the better of me, so I've constructed the three plastic Composter Bins in order to see where they will fit without being too obtrusive. After that I cut and removed about 30' of chicken wire that ran along the roof of the three garages originally intended to keep my cats in and other cats out. I also trimmed the climbing rose "Masquerade" which grows at the end of the garages. My garden hose on a reel had been removed by the Landscapers from the side wall of the garage as they worked, but I have put it back on the wall as they have finished working in that area. My Gable path 8' door is now back in place and raised up by about 4" for the bottom edge to clear the newly laid setts and I've drilled new holes in the door post for the bolts that keep the door shut. After that I sat on the patio with a mug of tea enjoying the mild afternoon that seemed to be full of the scents and smells of Autumn:coffee:, with Jenny the Cat wandering around and then coming back to sit with me.:cat-kittyandsmiley:

I gave my Flymo a service.
Now in the old days, when all mowers were steel, you put a nice green mower in the garage at the end of September and in April you pulled out a pile of seized-up rust.

Now with plastic being in common usage for mowers that doesn't happen.

With what we're often faced these days, with lots of stuff, is "No user serviceable parts accessible."

To service this mower I had to take it to bits. But it's just six screws and the abilty to open some clips without damaging them. You won't believe how much grass can get into "inaccessible" places. Also it's impossible to clean the filter without taking the body apart.

Anyway, job done motor, blade and fan bearings lubricated. a mixture of 3 in 1 for some and silicone for nylon bearings. Then a good clean.

What with climate change, mowing is still necessary at least once a month through the winter.
Also, with its big fan behind the blade, which blows the cut grass up into the grass box, mine is great as a leaf collector on a "high cut" setting.

It took me nearly 2 years to complete 4' x 6' frames of slack chicken wire along all the 8' high fences, with the agreement of my neighbours, andrews, with the intention of keeping just one of my two cats (Jenny) in, the other being too lazy and too wise to bother climbing fences. Jenny was like the Raptor in Jurassic Park always testing the fences using Shrubs etc as jumping points.:heehee: But I found the other benefit was that the chicken wire frames also kept out cats trying to get into my garden. So after completing the project Jenny has never been able to get out to the garden nor have any cats outside been able to get in.:cat-kittyandsmiley::snorky:

Our replacement "tree rose," arrived from T&M and has been potted up.
Now our total rose collection is twenty-six, twenty-four in pots/tubs on the patio or its steps, or along the drive to the side of our house and two more in borders.
                              I think that's enough!

More of the same here today. It was a dry day so I took the opportunity to cut back another hedge. The skip was pretty full until I got in there and trampled the hedge prunings down. Ran out of energy and enthusiasm at 2pm which means that I have another 20ft or so to prune back and then the skip can be sent back.
