@PaulB3, I'm sure all will go smoothly for your wife. You're obviously aware of the
procedure and all that it entails as you said that she's had them done before. Having said that,of course, it doesn't stop the niggling worries does it?

My brother has had almost every joint in his body replaced ( some several times now) or fused ever since he was 18 ,he is now 60 and each time we still worry......so I know exactly what you're going through. Keep strong, all will go well.
    Hugs to you both :grphg:

Just been for a wander around the garden. Hellebores are still being eaten badly despite my attempts to protect them from the tiny slugs :cry3:
Checked out all the over wintering plants in the greenhouse and coldframes, removing a few tatty leaves, but on the whole things look good:blue thumb:

      Very mild out there today!

Hi Upsy :) that unlucky with the hellebores they don't normally go for them, might be because its warm and they got nothing else to eat :noidea:

Thankyou to everyone ; yes , the niggling worries are inevitable .
Last Xmas she had a cancer scare but was given the 100% all clear in February ; had everything crossed on that one !
Perhaps one day we'll both have nothing to worry about .
Xmas been and gone now ; hope you all had a good one !
Can't remember if I mentioned my 'g/house within a g/house' idea on here ; that is simply two mini greenhouses inside my 10x8 ; up to now the cacti and other borderline tender plants are getting through OK relying on the gentle warmth of 8-hour TeeLights on the coldest nights .
Would be good for us all (and my plants) if January and February stay as mild as this :fingers crossed:

Unwrapped the treeferns today. Mild weather "forecast" for a few days. Most fronds are still green, bits of cold damage.
The ones in the conservatory looking great. Would be good to see the fronds last through winter just for a change.

Started assembling an electric, ride in Mercedes car.........its for great niece's 3rd birthday in
                    January.
As I said when I bought the car, "I never thought I would afford an electric Mercedes car" :)

Not much time for gardening but repotted a dwarf rhodo and mulched more hellebores, daphnes and edgeworthia chrysanthemum. Opened gh door too first thing......it has been very warm today:)

Tidied the strawberry plants up today and that about it, clean the little pots / cell tray the other day ready for seed sowing and tidied the gh for the umpteenth time. Decided I am going to move the compost bin when I empty it early next year. I fancy having a go at a kiwi plant there and I can fit in a red currant which is currently in the garden / herbaceous bed area, so that meaning a need another large / tall plant for the garden :snorky: not sure what yet though.

I pruned the roses yesterday - I usually do them around now, because they seem to start growing again so early round here.

It's time to empty out one of the compost bins, too, and use the contents as a mulch on the borders. I had meant to do that today, but it felt a bit chilly out there....

How about a sanguisorba Perki? Red Thunder is a great feature plant......tall, self supporting and long flowering??? Or a thalictrum?
I added another compost bin too.....it will be obscured with canna Trop Black and persicaria polymorpha to separate the blackcurrants in the foreground.:)

On Boxing Day I was setting Rope Twist cement edging along the patio where it meets borders and a strip of the Lawn. I've only lined it up. set the depth, that's it's level, and then tomorrow I'll take it out again, put in a base of mortar, get it straight and level again, fill the gaps either side of the edging with more mortar, apply water and then let it set. I had 36 pots of 4 Tete-a-Tete Daffs per pot from early this year that I took out of the pots and replanted in the area between the Observatory and the West fence so that they will flower again and brighten that area.
Today I drove to the next town and picked up 2 125 liter bales of B&Q Verve General Purpose Compost as I only had a third of a bale left in the Garage. I need the compost to refresh some of the large pots in the garden while also filling the Wall Bowers that I'll be refixing on the South facing Garage wall. I was looking for some fairly large shallow pots for planting the 30 Hyacinths bulbs, (I know, I know, I'm late:doh::heehee:), but B&Q had nothing to offer. I drove back home and called in at the Wyevale Garden Center at Tarpoley but they seemed to have even less choice of pots than the normally comprehensive range of pots that they have...........must be that time of year:dunno::wallbanging: I managed to find some narrow, long, plastic pots instead of the terra cotta type I was looking for so I compromised with them and, on driving home, found a round empty shallow pot in the garage. So the Hyacinths got planted, followed by about 220 Tulip bulbs and about 300 Daffodil bulbs into several large pots around the garden, including some of those that already had bulbs in them. I've still got about a dozen Imperial Fritillaries, a 100 Crocus, various Alliums, including about 30 Allium Nectaroscordum Siclulum but experience has taught me it is better to pot up the latter in individual pots of a compost, grit, and sand mixture and then, when they're nice and strong, plant them in the borders. I also planted about 40 Tulip and 100 Daffodils bulbs in the lower East end of the "walk around" border near the Arbour, and then headed for the House for that welcome Mug of Tea.:coffee: I still have to clear the borders of all the dead leaves, stalks and stems from the Hardy Perennials, etc which will be added to the growing pile in the Compost Bins..........but that's a job for another day.:dunno::heehee:

I been thinking about a sanguisorba, I saw some huge 7ft+ at dove cottage. I were going to visit later next year for a red sanguisorba like red thunder to go with a hydrangea annabelle / veronicastrum diane, also want so more agastache blue boa / kudus coral. I've already got a tall thalictrum anne only planted it last year so not seen it in all its glory yet. I think I'll have a look through some threads of the what looks good this month for some inspiration :blue thumb: unless anyone can recommended something .

You've been busy armadii :blue thumb: about time you got them bulbs planted :snorky:

Thalictrum Elin, similar to Anne, is a beauty Perki :)
Nice floriferous ...long lasting, bi coloured flowers.....plant with purple/blue foliage. Here it managed over 7' and looked good near hydrangea Limelight last summer and miscanthus variegatus :)
