The only problem with a pre-formed ponds is that they are more difficult to ensure that they are in the ground correctly with no spaces between the pond skin and the ground. Water weighs an awful lot and if there any weakness in the preformed pond the weight of the water will find it. Liners are easier to fit and worth the extra cost and do look more natural. To be honest, to me, putting a preformed pond in the ground is the same as putting the bath in. You've gone to all the time and effort of digging out the pond that it would seem to be wasted if you put a pre-formed pond in.:dunno::doh::snorky:

I do have an idea as regards the planting, although that has gone sideways a bit now :snorky:. I still like the bath pond idea but I also like preformed and flexible liner ponds  :snorky:. Great link :ThankYou:

Lucius, for what it's worth I think your pond is looking fab  . You've done so much hard work, I'm sure you'll get it just how you want :blue thumb:. Maybe have a few days off from it, give yourself a break? It's rumoured we're in for some bad weather anyway :heehee::snow::snowing:

Looks like a bargain! My only thought would be concerning the shape of it and digging out the right shape to make a neat "fit".

I've wanted a pond for years and done a lot of pondering :heehee: on the different options. When I do get round to it I'll definitely go for a liner. My reasons being, you can be more flexible with size and shape and I'd worry about not back filling the hole properly with a pre formed. I also like the freedom it gives when it comes to the edges, i.e. bog, grass, shingle. This is just my opinion, obviously, as I have never owned or made a pond :snorky:

It does look a bargain M hope Luci gets it :).

Installing them is straight forward, i had to leave a slight fall on mine i didn't want it over flowing on the wood when it rains,

Leaving a slight slope for overflow would also be good if your creating a bog garden the run of will naturally feed it :blue thumb:.

I think your pond is not so much in the ground, Martin as more in your decking area whereas installing a preform pond into the actual ground poses more problems in getting it to sit in the ground/:dunno::snorky:

It poses more problems doing what ive done A, and yes its in the ground :blue thumb:, installing it is as straight forward as the instructions illustrated in the video :dbgrtmb:

I think it's ' each to their own' and what soil you have to deal with:noidea: I have clay in the area I want mine, so that makes getting a good firm cosy place for a pre formed to fit problematic :rolleyespink:
I love yours though Martin :dbgrtmb: it fits perfectly with the surrounding area, very peaceful
I even considered puddling the clay at one point :yikes:
I love that we all have different gardens and ideas:snorky: it makes none of us right and none of us wrong :rasp:

:heehee: Looks like a liner /preformed/whatever you want then , having clay shouldn't pose any problems as far as i can see, but bear in mind you don't want clay running into it, use a little thought into its position and height above clay :)

Have you seen just how many angles the one she linked to has? I'd struggle to get a border that wavy, let alone a pond  :heehee:
