Woke up to pond issues. Whilst it isnt frozen and the pump etc is working fine, one of our weaker fish (albeit a big one) keeps floating to the top. He has some calcium deficiency so has grown a bit "bendy" nothing we can do about it apparently. Had to put him in a tub inside the heated greenhouse. Poor chap.

Just about to get the pump out the small pond that doesnt have fish etc in it and try get a bigger tub to set it up in.

Well he's in a bigger tub now with a filter aerating it and the water temp has gone up 2c so hopefully he will improve over the next few days. If he doesn't turn over though he'll have to go to fishy heaven :(

It's very windy, so I did a tour of the garden checking on the fence panels and particularly the retaining wires that keep our bamboo forest at the bottom of the garden from falling over.

Our bird "soup kitchen" is very popular, apart from the regular pair and the other residents, we had four more blackbirds visiting.

As many of you, I’ve been snowed off for two days, as has littlen, tried to warm up the GH by covering seedlings and making greenhouses inside of greenhouses and keeping check on winter wrapping on certain plants. Big shock for the recently transplanted tree fern and who knows how the Echium candicans will fair, should have bought it inside but it’s a bit too big for the lounge time is the only teller now... fingers crossed for + degrees next week and back to work!! Stay warm everyone!!

A sad sight, it could be a swim bladder problem, if so there's rarely a cure for it.

Make sure water butts are ice free for the birds. Probably service the secateurs etc. Sow early vegetable seed in plug trays.
