Picking daffs for our daughter to 'give' (in her absence) to Mrs Scrungee tomorow. Managed 50 in our first pick of the year, when there's an early Spring sometimes there's hardly any left.

I had quite a productive morning. I spent the first hour decorating the hall and the second hour in the garden.

It turns out that there were more aconites in each pot than I had first expected. I have put them in bigger pots to give them a bit of room to breathe. They had put out some healthy roots. I’m quite impressed. I did find that there was a puddle when I dug out the soil. What does that tell me about the soil in that location?

I had a go at pruning my rose bushes. They are a strange combination of dead and live shoots. Any advice would be appreciated.

I’m pleased to see that my new climbing rose is shooting already. I would like to leave it where it is to save me carrying it backwards and forward but the problem there is that it can be seen from the front of the house.

All this talk of rose roots growing outwards horizontally worries me slightly. The planting bed in that location is not much, if any, wider than the bucket. Will that cause me a problem?

It tells you it is not free draining and prone to waterlogging.

When I do jobs in the garden, the moment I've finished I chuck everything either in the shed or garage and come in.

I then return, usually a day or so later and tidy everything up, as I did today, it only took me a couple of hours.

Painted garage wall, will cut the front and back lawns soon :). The smell of newly cut grass is so evocative of past times
Put my size 11's through a bench in my haste......why didnt I move it and stand on step ladder? Prob wont replace it; parts of it are good and solid so I think I will make a small seat with it. I had a new one last year and there are other seating areas.
In the gh I have tiny shoots on a couple of dahlias and it looks like cannas are moving too.
Will prune some of the clematis

I've just potted my 3 Agapanthus bulbs. I have no idea which way up they were supposed to go. If they are wrong I will have to adjust them accordingly.

I'm the same. Except I do mine once a year and it takes me a day or 2.

Mrs Shiney potted on about 50 chillies (after I'd filled the pots with compost :pathd:) and then I found space in the propagator for them.

Sarafi was quite happy with me scratching his head, neck and tummy - until I turfed him out of his nice hot propagator. I've rearranged the trays of pots so he just has enough space to sleep, but I had to teach him how to get to that spot. He's a creature of habit and always gets in there from the back. Now the back is crammed with pots so I showed him (dragged him and stuck his face under the cover) how to get to his new bedroom area :snorky:.

The propagator still has four large chilli plants in fruit so I stripped the chillies from two of them and pruned them back. The other two will be pruned tomorrow :blue thumb: - or sometime! :noidea:

The next job is rats and rabbits.

Not sure what to do about the rabbits

Rats are going to need rat killer down the dozen holes in the garden  :dunno:

Cobbled together an extra shelf by sawing some rusty ends off poles and replacing missing ones with bamboo :)

These all seem to be doing well. 8 more that aren't growing but not dead yet :fingers crossed:

Yesterday, I sowed sunflower 'Titan' seeds with my children, now the race begins to see who's grows the tallest. I also sowed geranium cranesbill seeds and calendula seeds. Those are in the windowsill for now.
We also have a new raised veg/herb bed, so far it only has Rosemary in it, we want to get some Thyme to go with that. And then need to decide what else we want to put in there.
Repotted an azalea today. Its all looking lovely, all our tete a tetes are flowering away looking beautiful.

Mine is just a surface tidy. Once a year I empty the garage and give it a good sweep out, same with the shed.

Then I identify all the stuff I will never use again and make a pile of it, ready to go to the tip.
Then I give it all a second look and put it all back in the shed and garage...as "you never know."

Though today I took six empty polystyrene containers in which my wife's orders come, of meat from Donald Russell and pies from the Pie Company, down to the tip. In the past I've used a lot of them for storage in the garage as they keep everything dry. But I don't need any more.

I was planning on doing some more of the "to do" gardening jobs today, but the light showers have made it too wet . So I've contented myself with potting up 3 Astibles [Pink, White, Red], and 8 Kniphofias into separate pots, putting them in the Green House and then checking the other plants sitting in there.:coffee::snorky:
