Finish tidying up after the last snow and wind. Check seedlings, water in greenhouse as necessary and move plants sheltering from the snow back out. start to harden off sweet peas. A bit wet underfoot for tramping on the flower and veg beds.

Been cutting and shaping large evergreens.......masses of foliage to use as a mulch. Feels and looks like spring .
Trimmed back osteospermums, nepeta, gauras and the last of the miscanthus (looked good throughout winter)
Milder overnight for the week ahead so more potting up today too:)

Sorted out this narrow bed between the fence which goes between the corner of the house and the garage. I drastically cut back a jasmine which was taking over. So now a nice yellow rose will have a better chance this year, as will one of our new clematis. I'll plant the Koreana Amber there as it will be well protected. The wisteria in the corner grows around under the kitchen window and the main part over the fence, and round the side of the house above the kitchen door and a window.

This fence protects the most vulnerable area for semi-detached houses. With the trellis on top it's eight feet high.

Been busy this afternoon after our guests left. Sown lots of trays of seeds, potted on 8 courgettes and 8 squashes. Also potted on dahlia seedlings. Found the pentemon cuttings id done last year and they have great roots on them so planted them all into their own pots-pinched them out to to get them even bushier.

Planted out the lupins id dug up and kept in the cold frame. Also trimmed all the heucheras back. I'm thinking the ones already in the trough are a bit too big now and need planting out. The smaller ones id grown from the main plant will probably be better in the troughs?

Also been picking up small leaves that were in the purple slate around the border-back breaking that was!

Garden is starting to look better. I hope this coming week is drier! Loving getting outside again:hapfeet:

The ground is still too wet to dig over the veg patch, so Carol and myself sowed seed and seed and seed and some in the propagater, the rest in the greenhouse, only the parsnips left to do....

Go for it! Try to focus on the positives of a North facing window: it will get light, it won't get burned ;)

Maybe a bit of lateral thinking is required: if you can't match the obelisk to the pot, change the pot to match the obelisk ;)

Beautiful day here too; been outside for most of the day, and the hens have had their first garden roam of the year.

Overhauled the main shadey bed today. Despite my best efforts last spring it ended up looking quite drab, flat and square, so I spent the winter thinking up new ideas for it. Quite pleased with the result so far

                      Went from this...

There's a few things in there that are still pretty dorment - a couple of hostas, some ferns, an aquilegea, and a pair of fuscias that I really hope survived the winter - so once they start reappearing it should look a lot more filled out. Originally I intended to cover the soil in bark chippings to finish it off, but I'm not sure now. Will see how it looks over the next few days.

I made a variable temperature propagator using a gravel tray, a reptile heating mat (comes with temperature adjuster built in), some radiator heat reflective roll and some carpet tape.

Not finished yet as I've had and idea to make it neater by sandwiching it into another gravel tray with a nice grommet hole for the electric lead.
