Apart from digging up some Crocosmia for Mr Woo, chucking some peelings onto compost heap and refilling bird feeders I haven't done anything else gardening related. Fearful, strong, cold wind tearing across the land today and my heart was just not in it :heehee:. Read the Mike Dilger book for awhile, just one chapter. It's such a good book I have to limit myself or I'll finish it too soon :loll:

January is not the greatest gardening month . Just removed the anti-Molly digging devices from the flower bed . The tulips and daffs are coming up great :blue thumb::wagtail:

                          A job I hate doing.

Cleaning out the frog pond and putting in fresh water. I like to do it before they get "at it."

                          After.
                          P1000982.JPG

                          See any difference?

                          Nor can I.

But we had four residents who I put back in. The rest will still be hiding in the folds in the liner of our koi pool. They'll be joining them in a week or so. They can make their way out by climbing onto the overflow outlet.

I used the old water on the rhodos and azaleas. It'll be slightly acid. I use the dregs from the koi pump sump too, when I purge it each week. Beats paying for fertilizer.

Sowed some more seeds today - antirrhinum - Bacopa - pennistemum - Bidens - foxtail grass and some others .
Got the larger propagator out and cleaned it out, set up the wall pasting bench for the propagator and seedling hopefully very soon :fingers crossed:.
Took a dead fuchsia back to the greenhouse hoping for a miracle, thought the cold had got it before I brought it inside but the whole stem fell off as I placed it down, further investigation found vine weevil grubs  checked another fuchsia what keeled over, more Vine weevils .

Its snowing now and covered so no gardening tomorrow.

I’ve had a change of tactic today. Partly inspired by fellow GCers and partly from expediency. Instead of spending the next 6 months sifting bits out of my big pile of soil (and missing half of it) I am shovelling it all on as it is and worrying about any possible contamination as and when it arises. If all the debris in the soil is inert, I have nothing to worry about. The whole planting area will need digging over anyway before I plant anything in it.

                              :snorky:
