I got back from Manchester just before 6pm to find a parcel in the Mail Box containing the order of...........

      Marsh Marigold double form

      Mares Tail

and Mimulus Guttatus. All bound for the margins of the Wildlife pond.

So a with a quick change out of my suit and into my mucky gardening clothes I potted them on into a mixture of compost, sand and grit, and then placed them in a large trough filled with water along with with the large and the small forms of Typha, Pickerel Weed, the single form of the Marsh Marigold, Acorus, Menyanthes. I'll transfer them all to crates and then place them on the marginal shelves of the pond while wading in my Chest Waders........in warmer weather!!:heehee:

            aww that's lovely @BeeHappy

This is a piccy of us about 5/6 years ago at RHS Hampton Court Palace. It rained all day hence looking a bit bedraggled. But we had a good day out. She wouldn't be able to manage it now.

@Snorky85 What a lovely piccy of you both...one to cherish :imphrt: Bet you both had a fab day in spite of the rain. I've been looking and booking on my calendar my days out visits to the NGS open days for 2018.

I take a few of the seasoned gardeners in my area to these events throughout the year...provided they are user-friendly of course ....as they like your Gran couldn't endure the lengthy travel involved to go to the bigger events. Just a thought  ...do you think your Grandma would be able to consider a trip out to one of these days as I know how much my gardening chums look forward to a garden trip out, even if it just means a good natter over a cream tea sitting in a beautiful garden with fellow gardeners they love it - and I love learning from them, all that knowledge to soak up .....and they think im doing them a favour :heehee:

That's a brilliant idea @BeeHappy im going to look for something for her. So nice of you to do that too.

Taking her to Belgium next month and hiring a wheelchair. And then we might be having a trip to Great Yarmouth so maybe i'll have a look for something in Norfolk.

@Snorky85 by the way you look about 12 years old in this pic so you have definitely inherited your Grans evergreen genes, as your Gran only looks in her early sixties here

It's not a pond dug out to impress, Verdun:dunno::snorky: I dug it out over around 6 days back in '93 to an approximate length of 22 feet by 12 feet with a depth of up to 3 and a half feet. It has a shelf for marginal plants on 3 sides with a "dry wall" built into the pond along the North bank so that the pond water feeds the Bog Garden through the gaps and feeds water borne nutrients to the Plants. I put as many marginal plants in crates onto the shelves as I could, as I didn't want to use filters or anything electronic etc, to keep the water gin clear and maintain the balance of the pond.
Over the years I have put more plants such as Acorus, Sedges, Ferns, Skunk Cabbage, Astilible Yellow Flag and other Iris, Typha, Marsh Marigolds, etc into the banks, shelves and Bog Garden but when I have a wade around, in the pond, I can still find spaces and gaps that I can put more plants in. So, over the years, I have all sorts of insects visiting, resident Frogs, Newts, and a few fish, with the bonus that it's hidden away at the bottom of the gently sloping garden with a Jasmine and Clematis hedge on one side, Climbing Roses on another with a Ivy and clematis wall on the other, so that anyone sitting by the pond is completely hidden and can sit in peace. Nature does pay you back for any effort you put into a garden.:love30::snorky:

Today I spent the afternoon sowing seeds of hardy and half hardy annuals, pricking out some salvias that have just germinated.
