I removed the wires I'd been using to pull this big rhodo to the left as it was previously crowding the one to the right of it. Six months has encouraged it to assume this shape.

Same with this one in front of the camelia, which was leaning too far over the lawn.

    P1010191.JPG

I also removed the plastic clothes line with which I tied this sorbus to a concrete fence post. It's corrected its lean to the left and forwards, so as good as I can expect.

Didn't get too much done today. The temperature hasn't risen above 46F with a fairly chill breeze. I dug out/split a patch of Lysimachia purpurea before the rain came down and then we had a deluge. So I moved a table to under the porch of the summerhouse so I could work in the dry - but it didn't do anything to make it warmer. By the time it was all set up it was bucketing down and puddles ere forming on the lawn.

I then struggled to split the Lysimachia and ended up having to use a pruning saw to do it. This resulted in me potting up 40 plants for sale in May - before my finger froze off! I'll do some more when it's warmer :fingers crossed:

Sarafi the cat came to help me - rain or snow doesn't bother him at all. After head butting my leg a few times he realised that I wasn't going to bend down and play with him. So he jumped on the table, inspected the plants, stuck his head into the bucket of compost and then proceeded to purposely get in the way whenever I went to do something. In the end, I had to give in and stroke him and scratch him under the chin. This got his motor running :snorky:. After a few minutes I pushed him out of the way and he jumped off the table and promptly went to sleep on my feet! :rolleyespink: When I needed to move, to get more pots, he got up, stretched and wander slowly off into the pouring rain - not appearing to have a care in the world.

I'm now back indoors, warmed up, had a nice hot bowl of home made chicken soup and feeling pleased with myself. :blue thumb:

Just a note from my personal experience of this plant: When I knew I was moving here, @merleworld sent me some self-seeded pieces of Lysimachia to grow on in my new garden. They were good plants too! Nonetheless, they didn't survive; despite my best of care. :cry3: I'll be interested to read about your success rate and then compare how you kept yours to how I lost mine

Set up my wildlife camera to capture a picture of the beast that swoops down early a.m. trying to spear me fishes. Bad Birdie!

Got stuck into a pile of sodden abandoned sawn logs and reduced them to a small pile of kindling for next winter. Set a few mole traps. Then ran indoors, its freezing:rain:

Our experience is completely the opposite :blue thumb:. It's tough as old boots and spreads easily. I'm wondering whether yours were purpurea, as ours, or atropurpurea. Ours have glossy dark purple leaves and yellow flowers. :) Atropurpurea have purple spike flowers.

I agree and can remember at one time that it liked my soil so much it started to spread so quickly and become a problem.:dunno::snorky:

Lady Gardening :snorky: We are off for holidays next week and I'm not quite ready to flaunt my bikini body yet so severe mowing, pruning and general spring tidying was required. OK, I don't exactly flaunt. And the body in question is more like a DadBod. And the bikini is actually M&S Secret Support range onepiece which pushes bits towards desired directions, allegedly.

But hey ho, Hols are around the corner and hopefully the weather here is slightly more merciful when we get back and start the Grand New Border.

                    Spring!!! (please...?) :)

It been a reasonably nice day today, wet start to the day with rain over night but its been sunny and a bit cloudy most of the day, started raining this evening.

Potted on some seedling this evening - petunia - bacopa - begonia - antirrhinum, many more to do but I'll give them a bit more time before potting on.

@shiney Is it lysimchia firecracker your on about what has a tendency to spread ? or another variety .

@Perki It certainly seems to be that one, from the pictures on the internet, but we've had it long enough not to remember the exact name. :noidea:[/user]

I had Firecracker for a season but it was very invasive. Lovely foliage colour but it had to go.
I gave it to a local hospice ....explaining its tendencies of course....and it now looks wonderful. It has spread......it was divided and planted spaced well apart......but right plant right situation :)
