@Fern4 what is a boiler room? Is that like an indoor growing area? Sounds nice :)

You mean the boiler cupboard? It's a small cupboard with the central heating boiler in there. It gets really warm so good for warming up compost that's been outside (snowed today) for my houseplants and for germinating seeds. The only indoor growing area I've got is a front bedroom! Must buy a greenhouse this year! :rolleyespink:

Thank you @Fern4. I thought it was a special heated room- heated by a boiler but when you think about it, it really is a dual purpose area. Good stuff!:dbgrtmb:

I have a greenhouse but you know, other than keeping frost off of plants, when it comes to temperature, it cools in lock step with the outside unless you heat them. It's not practical for me until about the middle to end of March. I tried it one February and the extra charge for natural gas that month was nearly $200. :hate-shocked:So, like you, my largest areas indoors are any flat surface that gets light.

Not a lot in the garden today as it's showery, rain is much needed though. However will fit new inner tube to wheelbarrow so the barrow is useable. Also place order for some bulbs and rooted bits of plant with a couple of local plantsmen.

After consideration, I'm not sure lily of the valley is the right plant for me. The toxicity is a bit scary although I'm sure the animals would know not to nibble at it. It's also too vigorous for me. I was thinking it would make small, neat clumps. I don't have the room for it to run wild. I might consider using it for container displays.

Lily of the valley can be fickle anyway Gary....it seems to struggle or not "take" or runs rampant. Here it was the latter and I ended up keeping it confined to a safe area.
Not a plant for year long or long term appeal I think :)

Got more of the conifers out the front and the one out the back. Took them over to our lovely neighbours to go on the next bonfire.

                It’s bloomin freezing!

Spent almost an hour and a half in the garden today, the first time since October. Didn't get a lot done in the time but I enjoyed being outside. Obligatory peer into the depths of the pond, which looks like it has even more blanket weed . Thought it would die back in the winter. Planted a few Tete a Tete next to the pond. Spread a few bags of used bunny hay around, just as a way of getting rid of it.

Mulched another couple of beds this morning.....needed to be careful not to smother snowdrops that are poking through. Extra thick mulch around the hellebores that are also flowering well; scratched in some fish blood and bone around them tho before the mulch.
Still a lot of borders to mulch incl veg patch and fruit bushes but getting there :) Very satisfying job in the garden:). An unlimited supply of compost right now so I will get as much as I can:)
Nice day for working in the garden....dry, feeling quite warm, some sunshine
A couple of sarcoccocas pushed out their scent ......competing with the daphnes ....to make working outdoors a real pleasure :)

A bit of tidying up in the garden this morning and weed killer applied to wild garlic that had taken over a bed. Ive tried digging it out but theres so much that its a case of kill the shoots as they grow each year until its totally gone. Maybe too cold for weed killer - fingers crossed that it has some impact

Mulching here too, got all the beds done and still have a bag left over for topping up. Made note of a few gaps that need filling, and things that have definitely out-grown their current spot and need moving on. Found a hosta that I meant to split last year but completely forgot about; would I be ok to split it now or am I better waiting a few weeks? There's also a fuschia (Beacon) that is growing quicker and leggier than expected; when is the best time to move that?

Hiya 2nd bassoon, I split hostas now or at any time actually even in the summer. Now is good because I am moving some plants around. They are hardy things. I divide and pot them up too.:)
The fuchsia is best left for a few weeks yet I think:)

I'm continuing to work, very slowly, on the lawn edges. Those edges under the trees are still too dry to get a spade into. The more exposed ones are difficult but not impossible as the morning dew helps soften them.
