Very similar here too, minus the rain though. One minute it's grey with 50 mph winds and the next sunny and calm (er)!! Not really enough time to complete a job though before the next gusts whip around the garden ...hubs is braving it, but in his workshop at the bottom of the garden.Chicken!!

Lawns duly mown, juniperus Sulphur Spray trimmed and a few pics taken of the garden in the sunshine.
Its been a pretty good day with the wind reducing as day wore on
Lots of tomatoes picked ...they are ripening faster than I can eat them. Are Gardeners Delight better this year? They seem to be

You must be mad to garden in this weather? dismantled the gazebos before they ended up in France (they tried!), wanted to soak in the hot tub but waves too high!

Had gails here as well, I have all the blueberry plants covered in horticultural fleece to stop the black birds eating them. But in the gails it acted like sails and pulled some of the pots over, even though i had heavy containers in front. Had to take the fleece off in places until it died down, put it back at 8pm but it's still very windy. Managed to pick a lot of blueberries while i was waiting.

Clearing up yesterdays mess, Nasturtiums ravaged, tomato pots upended, DFBs laid flat and hawthorn twigs everywhere. :gaah: :sweep:
I've put all the pots back where they belong. The plus is that my water butt is now full again and the wind, although still blowing is much less than before.

We have abandoned all pretense of climate change with temperatures above 21C and two sunny days in a row up here in Newcastle and are firmly back in the good old rain, rain, rain and wind, rain. So indoors gardening only this weekend.

Out of necessity I have been playing musical chairs with houseplants. The very nice fern I got from Wilkos for 50p has now grown to the point where it no longer fits the bathroom windowsill. It jumped down, and for a reason. The plant is pretty much cubical as it has been growing against the window and occasionally turned around. OK, it comes down to living room, but where to put it? Not too close to a sunny window nor a radiator...

The swapping has been going on all weekend and I may just declare defeat, our house simply has too few windows. :wallbanging:

Or perhaps, my tendency to get overenthusiastic with seeds, and the preference for big plants just might play a role here. My Grandmother had a lovely jungle of Abutilon as houseplants so when I saw seeds in Chiltern Seeds I just had to get some. The memory of a "jungle" should have rang the alarm bells... Now the "seedlings" are 2 feet tall and full of buds so deserve a prime spot. But the Orchids are all flowering as well, so deserve a prime spot. Not to mention my handmade pots with the cutest ever cactus seedlings which deserve a prime spot. Or the agave which is so wide that doesn't fit anywhere else so needs the prime spot.

If the rain permits, the Dahlias and Gladioli definitely need some more staking.

Agree 100000000%. 2014 I had my first cancer op in the PRU. Farnbora. On leaving I got Amanda my daughter to get two very large boxes of Thorntons. One each for the day and night staff. The day staff consisted of a Sister, Angelina and a student nurse Chloe. Night staff were mainly oriental. These nurses from the orient and I have to say the doctors als, are IMO amongst the most gentle and caring.
Anyway, time to say thank you. Angelina was at tear point. Mike, thank you so much. So many patients leave and don't even say thank you. I got a great big hug and a proper kison the lips.
Truthfully. It really does get me going when patients abuse and insult the medical staff. Yes there are faults and shortcomingd in the NHD. This is the system. NOT those devoted members of staff. God bless them all.

I was too busy to do much in the garden yesterday and even missed the watering of the greenhouse, baskets, pots under cover and the nursery areas. So i did all that at 5.30 this morning.

Mrs Blackbird got upset with me as she was waiting with a beak full of worms and kept telling me that she wanted to get to her little ones nesting in the Euonymous. She was running backwards and forwards along the fence and squeaking at me (couldn't do much else with a beak full!). It's funny with their natural instinct fighting with their own knowledge. Both Mr and Mrs Blackbird are friendly with us and never get worried when were around (Mrs Shiney has even picked up Mrs blackbird :)) but they won't fly into the nest if we're within 10ft of it.

I've got 21 potted plants and I've had trouble with black birds, they've had some because i didn't cover them properly, but I've still got a lot.

You like blueberries then Logan! ha ha :) Lovely though :)

Once the blackbirds have a taste they have a desperate determination to eat the lot. I tried an experiment this year ...no netting and a daily picking. Worked for a while but then
Blackie got the upper hand. Will net next year :)

Can’t see much of a chance to get into the garden today except for later.

Lovely sunny day ....warm and pleasant
