The 3 Ferns I'd ordered arrived in 3 liter pots this morning and are in great condition, as did the 6 Rudbeckia although they were large plugs sent in a sealed plastic bag and a strong but narrow box. The 3 pots of Perennial Poppy "Patty's Plum" also arrived today in great condition, so they're hardening up in the Green House for a week or two.
So I decided to pot the 6 R.Goldsturm in the Green House on the new potting bench.
I have to confess that I fell to an impluse buy, very rare for me,


and bought, in a half price sale, 4 large flowered Cyclamen and 3 Cacti of varieties I hadn't got, (Well, that's my excuse). I could see the Cacti were in pots that were too small so I potted them on, using gloves!, and then looking at my Cacti collection I saw another 3 needed bigger pots so they were also potted on. I'm still waiting for 2 more specified Alliums and a Allium collection to arrive, along with a Solomons Seal. I've put the 3 Ferns outside on the Patio along with the other plants that are waiting to be planted in the borders once everything else ordered arrives, then I'll get busy planting everything that, next year, should change the appearance of the borders and bring even more colour

 

The last batch of Alliums arrived this morning those being A.Multibulbosum Nigrum, A. Red Mohican, A. Atropurpuereum, and A. Silver Spring. The only outstanding plant to come is Sololmons Seal but otherwise it means I can start planning on where the different kinds of Allium can be planted in an organised way, (for a change). I then need to plan where the new hardy perennials can be planted over the top of them and the already planted Tulip bulbs. I just need a few reasonably dry, mild days to get it all done and then wait for Spring to see what happens.

 

A day of being in and out of the garden, I'm trying to keep a record of the plants/bulbs I have bought ready for next year so that I can visualise what will go where in the borders.
I've made a count of having exactly 52 Hardy Perennials to plant. 436 Alliums, 31 Frittillaria, and two buckets of Tulips and Daffs to plant! One of the problems is that I have already planted just over 900 Tulips in the Borders when I had a "get ready for Spring" attack So I will have to disturb those layers of Tulips while planting the Alliums and Hardy Perennials which is a pain but the price of being too hasty I'm making a map out of the garden borders and garden so that I be a bit more organised of what is where, which is unusual for me and a change from the past The Alliums, Fritillarias, and Hardy Perennials, I have bought won't change the character or essence of the garden but, hopefully, will add to it.
I might have to do some splitting of large clumps of Phlomis Fruticosa (JerusalemSage) and some Day Lilies which are getting too big for their boots and I will be able to plant some of the bulbs and Hardy Perennials there........Gardens always have you thinking and using your imagination don't they?
