Planted out the broad beans grown from seed today - while it's still just possible to get a trowel into the rapidly hardening clay soil......just hope I don't have to re-plant them all tomorrow after the foxes have played with them tonight :-(

Got on with re-felting the shed today.

I started with this patchwork on Saturday.

      P1020436.JPG

and ended with this. I had to go over every inch to check there were no bits of of adhesive left or nails, to avoid the "budgie under the carpet effect" after I put on the new felt.

      P1020442.JPG

Took about four hours. It was a bit tricky as I had to turn the felt over the raised centre spine.

The flashing isn't smooth as neither are the walls of the garage, they are "featured." That stuff is self-adhesive and once it's stuck, it's stuck!

The hard bit was securing the left-hand side. It turns under the edge of the roof and I had to lie full length, lean over and secure it with a hand tacking gun.
The advantage of this shed I built forty-three years ago, is that the roof quite easily supports my 12st, anywhere on it. Not bad now it's forty-three years old.
Try that with a store bought shed!

Anyway, job done and as my old dad used to say, "It'll see me out!"

'Jobs a gud 'un' @Doghouse Riley :dbgrtmb:

Did a bit of tidying ,Magnolias are beautiful but they don't half make a mess when they start to drop.
Just tucked up the Greenhouse residents for the night. It's going to get nippy for the next few days and nights so don't for get to cover your tender bits.

          I’ve not done much today.
Pottered around dead-heading the daffs, as they go over, to encourage the bulbs to bulk up.
A little grass-weeding - taking out some of the dandelions that are flowering, getting as much tap root as possible. Also a v large thistle rosette that was near the drive/house. Hubby likes to walk around the garden barefoot, so that would have been a very nasty surprise!
Contacted a small independent firm to give us a quote on repairing the gate - they’re coming tomorrow afternoon.
Potted on some of the chilli seedlings, and the Thai and purple basil seedlings.
A gentle day, as Madame Izzy insists on following me everywhere, but isn’t really up for a lot of walking (but she did eat a “normal” breakfast this morning )

Not done much either in the garden
            Sian :)

But beautifully warm weather ....I did get niece’s lawn cut again; only cut a few days ago and grass is growing so fast now:)

Also managed to get down to the beach with Nico....the sea temp is about 12 degrees, usually about 9 at this time of year, but we both resisted the temptation to do more than paddle:noidea:
Basking shark seen on the coast...must be those warmer waters:)

Got a few plants arriving tomorrow and again on Friday :)

Plenty of rain to come this week but hopefully not too cold. Garden should appreciate the rain:)

Been out and attempted to tie up branches for "espalier-ing". Then used the weed feed and moss killer granules on the front grass. Ended up hand spreading it as the rolling spreader was useless - or I was - I couldn't work out at what rate it was letting the granules out.

I prefer hand spreading to machine Snorky.....you soon get used to it. Develop a smooth, gentle rhythm; easy :)

I finally got around to replacing the polycarbonate panels in the greenhouse. The old panels have been in place so long that they could actually be considered shading. ;)

It looks as good as new Hydrogardener.

I've been promising myself to pot up seeds for the last fortnight. It's a little late but I finally got around to it today. With the lack of a greenhouse to use now, I found it a bit restricting working in the utility room and trying to keep the mess down. But they're done and now sitting in the sun room on the shelves of a blow-away greenhouse I bought two years ago. Runner beans, which I haven't grown for 20+ years and various types of tomatoes. Whether any of them will survive outside - here in the frozen north, I'll have to wait and see. :)

It's still a bit early for sowing runner beans here in Shineyland. They will get too big before it's time to plant out. Orders for the plants are already coming in with 70 ordered so far :rolleyespink:. At this rate there won't be any left for sale on Open Day.

With over 500 beans to sow and nearly 200 chillies growing like mad there's not going to be enough room in the propagator. We're running out of space indoors for the chillies as they begin to need potting on (will have to keep a lot indoors for now) and the beans need to be started in the propagator until they pop up. Then they can be left in the unheated greenhouse to continue growing. Being cooler in the greenhouse will slow them down and let them build up some strength instead of climbing like mad. :)

Cloud pruned a large prostrate conifer which was covering a large area. Very satisfying seeing the result - it looks as if it's floating.

Nice Alana.....did that for a couple of junipers myself a few years ago; they then look superb :)

Potted up a delivery of plants that arrived today. It has been a beautiful day so far, colder though, so I picked up more locally produced compost. Just missed a heavy shower but sunny again. I think that’s going to be the pattern for the rest of the day:noidea:

Too cold to be out there!!:yikes:
I'm experimenting with the kitchen roll / baggy method of sowing seeds today after doing my Sweet Peas that way a couple of months ago. 15 different seeds have been sown.
I'm fed up with pots and trays everywhere with seeds at various stages of development!
If this method proves successful then that will make for less containers cluttering every available free space......definitely takes up less room :blue thumb:
We'll see...the proof of the pudding is in the eating....as they say.:)

Didn't do much today, spent some time in the garage, sorting out my koi pool UV, air pump and filter pump ready to sell on.

I temporarily, moved half the roses off the big patio down to the small one, in readiness for the "pool fillers" who are now starting on Thursday rather than Monday. Fortunately, I've a sack truck I bought years ago for moving my 3cwt vinyl jukeboxes, "if necessary," so it wasn't too hard.

                                P1020455.JPG

Never seen so much space on this patio.

                                P1020456.JPG

We've yet to decide which roses will go on the new "paved pool," when it's finished.

This is the bed formed by two rows of rocks at the front of the pool.

                                P1020458.JPG

These four will be going to make an access to the new paving. In the meantime, I've a ramp that will go here so they can barrow the rubble and hardcore into the pool.

                                P1020457.JPG

I was a bit concerned about the white wisteria we bought last year, as it's "doin' nufink,"

                                P1020452.JPG

Whereas the "old stagers" are this far along.

But then I "checked my records" (credit card statements) and saw that we didn't buy it until 16th April last year and it wasn't doing anything then, looking no different than today, but the garden centre said they'd refund our fifty quid if it didn't thrive.

It got this far by the end of May, so I'm still hopeful.
