Think it's well past that stage @Perki !It's absolutely everywhere and has now smothered the other side of his garden too, the roots are just a solid mass under the surface of the soil.
If possible I would have done what we had to do in ours when we first moved in. We stripped everything back dug out what we could removed every shrub/ plant and finally treated the whole area with a strong weedkiller. We left it dormant for over a year before planting it out from scratch.
But as I said before time is not on our side so I will have to keep on top of it by frequently digging it out so that visually it looks tidy ( but under the surface is another matter!!) At the grand age of 94 I just want my Dad to enjoy a tidy and colourful garden this summer......if possible!:fingers crossed:
My Mum would have a fit if she could see the state of her beloved garden, she loved it so much and spent all her free time out in it . She was a very knowledgeable gardener and I wish I had taken time to learn from her!

I wouldn't say the climate's better...many more extremes between hot/cold and wet/dry. There are some lovely, double Punicas in apricot, yellow and picotee of both. They date from the 'yellow' phase  Then it went through a lime green/pink phase....now it's whatever will survive!

We're still tidying (non-stop job) and preparing more plants for sale. We've potted on Salvia turkestania ready for sale but they may all end up in our garden!!!

Planted out 6 pots of hyacinths in the garden. But the last 2 days have been cold and wet.

Potted on tomato, cucumber and snapdragon seedlings for the conservatory/greenhouse.

Personally, I would wait a year before doing anything drastic like filling in sump with hardcore. Murphy’s Law dictates that as soon as you have done so, you will either find the perfect water feature, or decide that you HAVE to have the sound of running water.:)

If you can’t find what you are looking for in the coming days, try putting a grouping of pots/containers in that position. You can get an idea of scale, height a feature should be, etc. Then come Easter next year, if you’re still committed, you can let rip with the hardcore!

Stopped raining this afternoon so took advantage of it.
Potted on my 8 Cupressus totem seedlings that I've grown from seed.
                            Planted some Bellis.
Just did some general tidying up.

Well....checked out my experimental kitchen roll/ baggy seeds that were sown on Sunday, so far some Zinnias and Cleomes look as if germinstion has begun. :fingers crossed::blue thumb:

Have to say it's a lot tidier than pots and seed trays everywhere ....... if it proves successful that is.;)

Yesterday was a strange, pottering sort of day...

But I deadheaded the daffodils that needed doing, admired my tadpoles (as you do!), contemplated a suspected recent visit from the heron (two wounded baby goldfish, and the rest very nervous), emptied 80l of compost out of the trough outside the kitchen window, picking 60+ vine weevil grubs out as I did so, spread the spent compost on the top veg bed, and put 80l of fresh compost in the trough. The bird table was righted from being blown over by the wind - again! - and the vine weevils placed on the table for a bird treat.

Fruit trees were inspected and encouraged, as is traditional here, at least once a week....

The mop-head hydrangeas at church were pruned, and daffs dead headed, as a side event on the way to the vets. On our return, the prunings were layered onto the compost heap.

What reminded me that I didn’t post my potterings? I’m sitting in the lounge, looking across the patio at the bird table, as I have my late breakfast. There’s a great tit, and a robin, that keep hopping onto the table, hoping more weevils have appeared! Also a pair of black-caps mooching around (am I remembering correctly, the female actually has a red-cap?).

Time for another cup of coffee, and cookie, before setting to, and cutting the grass!
