Pretty much all of the spring bulbs from my xmas present "party pack" have now reached maturity. Whilst they are in an easily distinguishable form (rather than a selection of random bulbs) I have taken the opportunity to re group them. In the big tub are still some muscari that are just starting to break through and some crocus which have yet to show. I am keen to re utilize all of that compost being wasted in such a big pot.

    G.

Ps To save compost I half filled the grey pots with garden soil first.

Decking all cleared, gravel is where my pond used to be and will be changed for soil for a flower bed.

Had a really productive bank holiday weekend in the garden.

Potted on a load of chillies and tomatoes, pricked out the herbs.

Moved more stuff out of the greenhouse until a tear on the innertube of the sack barrow meant no more shifting big pots about.

Planted another echium, sowed lettuce and rocket.

Cut the grass, applied weed killer to the bind weed in the border and generally pottered about

This morning I tidied up the front verge. I dug up the main clump of lamium. It was big enough to split into 3 decent sized chunks. I trimmed alot of the foliage off to make it easier to replant. There are now 6 pieces in total spread evenly (ish) along the hedge. That should be enough to cover that area. They are looking a bit sorry for themselves at the moment but in the past they have always come good. I'm expecting great things.

Another busy day out there. :phew:

In between all the jobs, I've been moving the sprinkler around the beds. Sowed 250 runner beans (all for sale), cleared another area of the garden (more 'health and safety' complying for when we open the garden), mowed four of the big lawns (smallest approx. 70ft x 15ft), cut about 8ft off a specimen variegated privet, cut back a large Euonymous that was swamping Rosemary (a statue :)), cut back all last year's dead blackberry stumps in four blackberry beds and now sitting down planning tonight's dinner whilst supping a cuppa. :coffee:

If all goes to plan, I expect to be watering and feeding everything later this evening. Because of the animals, I have to use soluble plant feeds. That means lots of walking to and from the outside tap with a heavy watering can.

Didn't have a lot of time to do much today, as I wasn't home from golf (and getting "justgetmes") until 2.30pm.
Drilled a couple of holes at the top in two of the concrete posts of our post and panel side fence to string a wire to support one of our clematis, which has "gone on the rampage." I don't attach anything to the wooden panels.

Then decided to open the left-hand door of the tea-house. It's not been used for ten years since I've had my Budweiser fridge in there, which prevented the use of that door. I moved this fridge into "The Room" the other day. Found that the door was rubbing on the vinyl flooring, so took it off and planed a bit off the bottom. So now it can be opened. Yes I know I managed without it for ten years, so it wasn't essential, but now I know I can open it if I choose to. That's just me.

The centre door can be opened either way, or even removed. It's just secured by four bolts at each corner.

The first two of our six wisterias, are nearly "there."

Lovely long weekend in the sun. Sowing and potting on, touching up the paint on the wooden borders, tidying, general caretaking. For now I feel on top of things...it probably won't last :rolleyespink:

My son built a new frame for my cold frame . I had one of those metal tubing ones and replaced the plastic a few years ago and then the frame gave up. So he made me a new frame to fit the heavy duty plastic sections I had made.
                          . Jim's Frame (1).JPG
Then I painted it and planted out my onions. Ran out of paint so will need to do a bit more with that part but it the job won't run away on me. Another day..

Took Nico through local woods earlier......warm, masses of scented English bluebells everywhere, woodpecker hammering away otherwise very peaceful. Delightful.
