In the greenhouse today potting up, on and repotting.

 

I repotted the last of my spring bulb selection. The big tub is now stowed away for another day and the compost has all been used elsewhere.

I also potted up my nerine bowdenii bulbs. I need to keep them safe as there is still work to be done before I can plant them out.

I have repotted my orange lilies.

The pot had tulips in which I believed (wrongly as it turned out) to be dead. Either way, the pot was wasted where it was before. At least now it can be seen properly. It does have a nasty crack in it though which is slightly worrying. I guess that's not surprising though as it is quite a few years old now and has been reused once or twice. I repotted the tulips elsewhere.

I've been doing the hockey cokey most of the day..'In out in out ' due to the weather but that's what gardening is all about.

 

It's just a bit of scrap laminated chipboard and a couple of bits of bamboo cane.
The feeder is just the base of a milk carton, I drilled a hole in it to let any rain drain away.
I put a half a handful of peanuts in it last night and the squirrel has obviously been and taken them. There's no chance of a wood pigeon getting in there.
I'll put more in tonight.

 

Overcast day today, dry morning and gentle showers throughout the day. Perfect!

Got the feed-and-weed in where weeds look healthier than the grass, and feed where the grass is dominant. Threw an extra handful of the weed- type on some vigorous Docks and smiled at them smugly Just you wait, love.

Played the Greenhouse Tetris trying to make room for the allegedly "compact" gherkin's day trips. It's still too cold to leave it there for the night but at least it has stopped poking my hanging planters on the windowsill.



Spray painted the containers I made for my lovely Semprevivums, and painted the excellent low terracotta planters from Poundland with expired Creme Fraiche. Apparently that makes them look aged quicker... but I read that in a book and if a Book tells me to do something, who am I to blow against the wind? And since we don't really have a view here, the neighbours must have some joy when looking out from their windows.



The sparrows shouted at me, apparently it's rude to first fill the feeders and then spend the whole day pottering about. Humans should know better than that- fill the feeders and then retire indoors sil vous plait..

 

With the frames filled and sanded, finally got around to stapling the remaining mesh to them and even found a gap in the weather to get a photo of them in situ.



It's still a little rough around the edges, but it's certainly come a long way already. It's definitely a better use of the space than before though.

Not much done in the garden but have sanded down the kitchen door frames, finished off the main wall tiling and put up four wall units!

Potted on runner beans, potted on tomatoes, sown more lettuce, planted out parsley, mulched peas and pulled some weeds. Lawns mown
Dry but cloudy day albeit pretty warm

 

Took the opportunity of some dry weather to start marking out for the pergola posts, just about see the pencilled circle , can't wait to get stuck in.

 

This weekend I've been avoiding the builders and moving plants out of the way. Done a bit of work in the borders and potted lots on in the tunnel.

Keen to get the pots back in their summer positions but scaffolding around the house for a new roof has messed up our plans.

Builders have had a good weekend stripping part of the roof.

Cant wait to get back to normality !

 

@andrews your pictures make me feel better about our scaffolding! It's been up for two months but the work is finally finished now; our landlady promised the builders would be round yesterday to take the poles down, so based on the saga of getting it put up I'm anticipating it being gone sometime towards the end of next week. And then I will finally be able to powerwash the patio
