Have you considered growing your gooseberry as a cordon Gary? Against a fence for example. Very prolific way of growing gooseberries???

You've got them in nice large pots :dbgrtmb:. I keep mine in 3 litre pots. Yours may grow bigger as you have more space for them. Mine have been in the propagator so have got going well. They all have flowers and some already have small chillies on them. I'll start feeding them tomorrow. :)

I've been making some Heath Robinson rabbit protection with odds and ends lying around, as we're going to start planting out soon.

Some of the six hebes I bought last year for the troughs either side have been doing very poorly this year. It's partly my fault as in that location they don't get a lot of sun. So yesterday I selected the best two and re-potted them with some new John Innes growing on compost. I also bought four more, so they are each flanked by two new ones.

Two more are "on probation." I re-potted those too and put them on this low wall where they'll get a lot of sun. They do seem to be trying to recover.

Two others were beyond saving so they've been "green binned."

              Thank you!
She was better on Wednesday, but quiet again yesterday. We’ll keep her quiet over the weekend, and if she’s still struggling, we’ll have a physio appointment at the vets....

@shiney those pots are actually kids trugs for playing at the beach. They hold about 3 liters and I just used my soldering iron to put a hole in the bottoms and inserted a piece of felt to aid in sucking up water. I chose those trugs because we have such a short season and I thought no matter how I get it, I'm going to have lots of colour outside. I recovered my patio furniture cushions with really bright Sunbrella fabric too.

I'm quite proud of your hybrids. They've soldiered on through the last few cold Canadian spring nights and when I was talking to them yesterday, they started picking up my accent too! :heehee:

I am so excited about this weekend. I hope lots of GCers manage to come to your place and I look forward to seeing any pics you have. If you could all send me a "wave", I'd be thrilled!

Growing the gooseberry bush against a wall is something I had looked into. My house has a timber frame. In theory I should be able to attach a trellis to it. It would at least be out of the way there. Food for thought anyway.

Mowed lawns, edged lawns...I love my Flymo lawn edger..I can highly recommend it ,tied in Toms, shuffled plants around in the GH...Broke with tradition and made a start on trimming my Box Hedging,I've always waited till 'Derby Day' but seen as I have an unhealthy obsession with Buxus I need to make an earlier start these days:rolleyespink:...

                      “Fruit” for thought Gary :)
You could get 2 or 3 different varieties spaced 60 cm apart too
A whole bunch of planting done today and all heavily mulched. Looks good so well satisfied :)

Having started re-seeding the large bare patches in my front lawns yesterday, I finished that after shopping today and gave all a good watering. Rain is promised tomorrow and showers next week, so hopefully that will let me off the job of daily watering. :)

I hadn't got a clue about the size of my gardens here so while I was outside yesterday I paced out the front. It's actually larger than I thought, approximately 120ft x 70ft. I wanted to down size when I moved but it's 60ft longer than my last garden.

I'll be watching the tennis and football today, so no time for gardening except for watering the pots late on. As our garden is South facing, the patio and paved areas get very hot, so pots can dry out quite quickly.

Yesterday I finished off the two addition shelves I errected in the "rabbit shed."

I bought an off-cut of MDF for three quid and found some left over pelmet I bought when I re-made this area in the corner of the kitchen when we had the boiler changed two years ago.

My wife thought she'd be getting (another) new kitchen. She didn't, but she got a new fridge/freezer because this one (on the left) packed up at the same time.

                            MDF bends without some support.

We have had rain for the last 2 evenings and all of today so far. In hindsight I feel that my midweek exertions should have concentrated on mowing the lawn rather than watering the plants.

Rain has stopped play for today. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Well, the damp we had overnight was just that....mist and light drizzle
Dry bright today and increasingly warm but was hoping for decent amount of rain
Anyway, got more local compost and mulched veg crops
Expecting visitors so I guess there will be no more garden jobs today :noidea:
