Please don't laugh...........Ok all I done was stuck Sandpaper (Glasspaper) around a large pot with a Sweet Pepper in it; I had heard this will deter Slugs & Snails..........Couldn't do anymore as the idiot who lives at Ashburnham Road has a very smoky bonfire:love30::gaah:

That is a true Road name.......My brother in law, Bernard was an Undertaker, who live in a house called Willburnham :bonfire:

Not a lot of work in the garden but planted salvia Embers Wish, salvia love n wishes, the last of the tithonias and sanguisorba Blackthorn......all from cuttings or divisions from last year :)
Possibly the hottest day today.......fantastic. No option but to have a couple of cool ciders:rasp:

Haven't had much time for gardening up until recently due to trying to paint and pour artworks for an exhibition and three gift shops. Got quite stressed and rather predictably have now decided to not do the art thing and instead spend the summer in the garden and on the beach :heehee:.

Finally got some lovely weather but after another dry winter we are having another dry spring/ summer. No rainfall for past two weeks and what we have had has barely wetted the ground. Spent this afternoon watering the baths/sinks/pots again. Started to prune an old Ribes down by the boat, which is looking rather sorry for itself. It has some dead wood and didn't flower to its best this year. I haven't finished the job yet, as I found a baby Toad in the long grass close to the Ribes. Thinking there may be more than one and scared I might tread on them if I continue. Started a new log pile.

My garden is looking quite wild and woolly and magnificent at the moment ( my opinion obviously :lunapic 130165696578242 5: ). The Poppies are starting to bloom :wub2:. I will take some pics tomorrow.

Unfortunately, the wildlife in my garden is having a bit of a hard time  and in particular the :hhog:. Lost five this year so far:sad:. The latest is the saddest story :cry3:. River, the baby hedgehog who had fly strike, is in one of my rabbit runs and a couple of weeks ago I went to get her to give her a weight check. I found River sleeping with another hog :hate-shocked:. I think she must have wriggled under the gate. She was one of my over winterers so obviously remembered being in that run prior to release. I added another house but they chose to stay together. I noticed a drop off in food being eaten, so lifted lid on house to check. I found that the new hog had two babies :hate-shocked: :hate-shocked:. I quickly moved them to the other house and left them to it. Four days later I saw mum out in run so sneaked in to have a peek. Both babies had died ( been dead awhile ) and I realised that mum wasn't at all well. Brought her inside. Despite my best efforts she continued to deteriorate and this morning I had her pts :cry3:. I suspect she had been poisoned, which would also explain baby deaths. I have buried her next to her babies, in a large pot with an Aster on top. So sad :cry3:

I've managed to get into the garden the past couple of days. Believe me this is so soul destroying. Many of my roses are laden with buds and blooms. In all my years of gardening, I have never seen milk thistles the size of those in my garden, over six feet high and 1-2inch dia stems. My shrubs are wrapped up in bind weed from next door. Have managed to plant some digitalis and begonia sempervirens. No sooner do I get started and have to rush indoors to cool down etc.

I got an hour's gardening in before having to go out at 6.15 a.m. Now I shall be busy until at least lunchtime so gardening will have to wait.

Sorry @wiseowl  That's just like all my school reports - "Could do better!" :dunno:

I even got into trouble for carving my name in the wall of the school cave. :nonofinger:

Just in after a productive couple of hours in the back of the borders. The nettles are mean and I'm covered in stings. I've made some nettle fertilizer, turned the compost and leaf bins. All grotty jobs but I feel much better now.
I cut my box hedge which was moved in the autumn and gave it a good feed. The garden is looking lovely when viewed as a whole but when I sit down for more than a few minutes I find another job that needs attention. It's a good year for weeds so I'm going to take Verdun's advise and mulch more. Worth a try.
In for a surf and sit down now. Maybe I'll go to look at the gorse at Dunwich later.
