What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2019

Hiya Logan....for me, the bigger the better for wallflowers.
All the wallflowers have long been removed but I have just 2 or 3 stocks left....their scent is so beguiling and they still look so good that I have resisted taking them out. Their days are numbered though!
I too will be sowing more wallflowers.

 

Not much gardening done over past few days, busy with different things. Had walk on beach yesterday and took pics of seathrift and butterflies. Started raining .

Had a wander around garden later when rain stopped. Dead headed Geums and Scabious. Some of the Poppies have been blown over so pulled them back up and supported with canes and twine. Need to buy more today. Spotted a blue Damsel fly on a leaf next to pond . I need to clean pond out a bit but every time I net it to remove blanket weed I pull up larvae. Not sure what larvae is but thinking I don't want to disturb too much. Lots of snails and several diving beetles in the pond as well as pond Skaters. Cut some Marjoram and Dandelion leaves for the buns dinners.

 

Packing loads of plants into my car for taking to and planting at my nephew’s later
Some welcome rain overnight and this morning but showers should evaporate by lunch time.
The weekend is looking to be a hot one

 

No gardening yesterday as we were too tired after having to get an ambulance out for hubs at 1:30 am. All is well now

 

Just had a quick inspection of the garden .....amazing how much growth there is after rain. Artificial watering simply isn’t the same!
Makes everything look clean, refreshed and even more fragrant

I totally agree Verndon.
Everything looks so much greener and healthy ,the water butts are full ,that should keep all plants happy for a while ,me too.
Must keep an eye on the weeds they loved the rain too.
Keep an eye on baskets and tubs ,they soon dry out.
Looking at forecast for the next three weeks no more rain in sight ,so this was a godsend.

Water butts are full @roders !!! ..all 8 of ours are completely dry.
We keep getting promised rain but it never materialises, even this morning came over very dark and hopeful looking but it just drifted away without a single drop of fallen wet stuff! Now the sun is back out.

 

Had a bit of a clear up after the rain and windy weather yesterday. Went round with the brush and the garden vac. Dead-headed one rhodo and tidied the garage. I always hang on to too much stuff. But if I go through it regularly I do find things with which I decide I can part. If I went through it less often I'd never throw anything out.

 

Had a fun day planting nephew’s garden “helped” by my 3 year great niece....adorable blonde bundle of fun!
Resisted the temptation to drop in at Burncoose Nurseries (yet another gold at Chelsea) as I passed by.
A glorious day with total blue sky now but....always a but isn’t there?.....some heavy rain expected tonight.

 

I must remember to not leave around, catalogues that come with plant purchases.
Last week my wife saw a display of these on TV at the Chelsea Flower Show, so she got me to order three. They're sitting on our patio steps.

She's just seen this in the catalogue, so I've had to order it for her...Anything for a quite life.

Hopefully, I'll be able to train it..... My wife's untrainable.

 

Mostly a housework day but did eventually get out into the garden
Another hanging basket and a tub got planted out. Repotted some herbs and will sow some herb seeds tomorrow. Did some deadheading and watering because despite having a couple of occasions where the clouds darkened we've still had no rain.

 

Upsydaisy I hope hubby is ok.

 

Thanks Verdun yes my wallflowers were big enough when they started to flower. Just finished pulling them all up, apart from the ones that are in the tubs.
I could have left them in and just cut off the flowered stems but I've got pot marigolds to replace them.

 

This is the six foot tall pagoda I built thirty three years ago using a lot of molds I made. I'm going to give it a make-over tomorrow, if it doesn't rain. I do this every five years.
The paint helps to prevent too much erosion of the outer surface, because although it's made of fine mix concrete, the outer skin is sand and cement mortar, it was the only way I could get any detail.



As you will see, it's starting to look a bit tatty.

 

Planted out a load of heucheras today - lime marmalade. I'd split a load in the autumn and they've all done well in pots. Planted out a big tray of euphorbia oblongata that I'd sown late last year. I've also topped up the borders around the new hedging with soil from the koi pond waterfall which has now been removed. YAY.
