Planted out all the dwarf pot marigolds. A neighbour gave me a knautia so planted that out, it replaced a veronica which was dying.

The thing is it's best to deadhead everything, but never get round to doing it. But a lot of my aquilegias have died so not a problem. Some of the hardy geraniums self seed everywhere and some spread so most of them have been dug up. Oriental poppies have been dug up they get too big, gave them to a neighbour which she liked very much.
I replaced them with currant bushes.

:rain::rain: for past two days :yay::yahoo:. Garden seems to have gone a bit mad from, sure everything has grown at least a foot :heehee:. No gardening. Instead watching ' Escape to the Country ', especially the Cornish episodes :).

Today has been mainly sunny, but busy with other stuff. Just a wander around in the gardens. I did pull out a load of Cleavers. There is a LOT of it here, more than the buns can eat and it's strangling everything.

I don't mind dead-heading rhodos. But I draw the line at azaleas, too many and too many blooms. There'll be weeks before the all the dead blooms fall off and then not all of them.

I totally agree @Doghouse Riley ....but don't they look awful once the blooms fade!:yikes:

Also agree with what @Verdun said earlier too. Aquilegia is one plant that I have given up on, as hard as I tried to introduce new varieties they all end up reverting back to the dirty pink look.

We have Hypericum Hidcote...lasts all summer long!:dbgrtmb:

Warm enough for the beach but I will take Nico to the woods soon.:)

Most of the planting done now :)

I do deadhead Rhodos and azaleas.....makes for tidier, bushier plants I think :)

E28FC2B4-F124-4244-AC11-8BCE51C4285F.jpeg The plant we have not yet identified has got some caterpillars on it, just googled them and they are mullein moth caterpillars.
They eat 24 hours a day for 30 days, then pupate under ground for 2-3 years.
Normal areas are down south unless our plants are tastier up north.

Well done @Verdun, you must have the patience of a saint to deadhead Azaleas. :love30: We do the Rhodos though.

Does look a lot tidier :dbgrtmb:

No patience at all Upsy. I grow some in containers, maybe 8. Unlike most of Cornwall, here near the coast the soil is neutral rather than acid so not ideal for rhodos, azaleas etc. :)

Nephew has told me of this “fantastically scented” white flowered plant he wants......I think it’s a Rambling Rector rose. I think it’s a rambler though and in his smaller garden I think a climbing rose would fit in better:). Thus, hand in pocket time again:noidea::)

I know what you mean by the “dirty pink” - we had that in the last two houses we lived at, although in the first one, there were a few interesting red-and-whites mixed in too.
Feeling especially blessed here now, as we only have one colour, a deep purple!

(I struggled to find any that have withstood the two torrential thunderstorms we have had for the last couple of nights)

We also have a lot of self-seeded lychnis coronaria. I find the combination of flowers and foliage very pleasing

Well. I wouldn't want to dead-head this lot. It'd take days. And this is only half of what we have.

I've dead-headed these rhodos. I use a pair of paper hanging scissors, with their long points it's easier and quicker to do than by hand or with secateurs. I've given them a hose down and a feed.

                        More to be done later.

                        P1020972.JPG

I'm well pleased with the recovery of some of our hebes.

These were looking very sorry for themselves a few weeks ago.

                        P1020516.JPG

Part of the problem is where they are, as they don't get a lot of sun, but that's where I want them. Anyway, I re-potted them with some fresh growing on compost and gave them a trim and a feed.

Two didn't make it and another is still on the critical list, but three did. One's at the end of the rockery and two are in the middle of these planters, flanked by new arrivals. I'm pleased that they've already got plenty of buds on them

Fed the chickens, then played with the dogs, that's it!

Supposed to be a day off today, normal grafting resumes tomorrow!
