Yesterday it was a little cooler, just 30 degrees, so I did some weeding, picked some mangetout, and wound in the jasmine officinallis, the Passion flower, the Swan Lake climbing rose, and a wandering clematis. So pleased with the jasmine. This is the third flat/house I’ve planted it at, and this is the first year we’ve had more than a handful of flowers. I love it!

Today was more weeding, deadheading, path-clearing and potting on some of the chillies. I have to confess to outright cruelty when it comes to chillies. They featured in GW last week, I think, and the camera showed the plants in Monty’s greenhouse, my immediate thought was “what lucky plants in lovely big pots”. Monty then went on to explain that he was keeping the plants in small pots to stress them a little. Mine must be trying to contact Amnesty!!:yikes:

Put all the bedding plants in and potted on some polyanthus that i grew from seed. Running out of compost, have to ask hubby to get some more.
Tonight it's watering the pots and some things in the garden, i hate doing it but someone has to. :heehee:

        Hi,

All this talk about watering is making me feel mean; if only Blackie would visit you all. :)

Today is our second day without rain and I'm expecting the usual panic on TV discussing hosepipe bans and standpipes; I bet the army is on red alert too?

I've just visited the tip and at last I could put my sunglasses on; it's 20C here at the moment; bring it on.

        Kind regards, Colin.

Started off cutting the paddock before the chickens were let out.

Planted a yucca in the arid bed, swept the patio and part of the drive - lots of dust from having the roof replaced has been washed to the lowest point. Hopefully that will be most of the dust gone.

Potted on some strelitzia and passiflora mollissima

Pulled a load of weeds from the (neglected) strawberry area. Had something sting or bite my neck and its still stinging. Time for a break.

Dare I complain that its too hot ?

The weather here is cool and breezy - no heatwave yet:sad: I did get some weeding and snipping done before visitors arrived and stopped the proceedings. The garden is better than ever with the exception of a sickly recently planted hydranga and a peony planted last autumn. The hydranga looked as if it was going great guns then half of it died. The peony had healthy looking leaves which then turned brown and dropped off. Not much of a disaster in the scheme of things but I think I'll dig them both up and check the roots to see if there are any nasties lurking. They are planted in separate parts of the garden and have been nurtured which makes it all the more puzzling.

Clouded over this afternoon but very warm and pleasant. :) That awful wind has died right down.
So, it will be watering later.

Picked more strawberries earlier.....been a good crop this year

Must get camera out over the weekend....some interesting plants to capture :)

                Hi,

You're not alone alana in losing an Hydrangea; I bought four Hydrangea potted plants last year and all four have died so I know not to plant any more Hydrangeas; as you say it's not a disaster but it is rather frustrating isn't it? :)

It's suddenly turned hot and sunny but Gale is still putting her cool breeze up the valley.

                Kind regards, Colin.

I've been tidying the long border today, cut back a perennial geranium, Geum rivale and a couple of aquilegias as they were looking mighty messy!
Did a spot of deadheading on some of the dahlias and then sat under the gazebo with a cuppa.

More watering, more wisteria pruning. The unwanted shoots can grow six inches overnight.

Very busy day, after all the indoor jobs were done at my Dad's I spent the whole afternoon in his garden. It was sweltering hot but I am desperate to keep on top of most of the Ground Elder which is growing madly in this weather.
There wasn't any more room in his gardening wheelie bin so I was filling up any container I could lay my hands on.
Trouble is my Dad doesn't water the plants properly ,I keep saying to him to given them a good drink rather than a few drops every day. I knew this would happen but he would insist that he wanted lots of plants and that he could easily use the hose pipe on them! I grew all the plants from seed and hate seeing them wilting away and dying.

I am going to be living at my sister's soon for a week or so because she is undergoing an operation and will be out of action ....dread to think of what will become of my Dad's garden!!:yikes:

                          Hey ho....worse things happen .

I had to feed myself this evening as my wife was out visiting. I decided to eat at Morrison's and check out there plant selection. I came away with £10 worth of past their best plants and a bag of compost. As most of these plants were looking very sorry for themselves I didn't want to risk leaving them unattended for too long. It was a warm evening and my wife was still out. In a good 2 hours work I managed to repot everything and spread them all strategically around the garden. Or to be more precise, I stuck them all in random pots around the garden just to use them up.

If I keep an eye on what grows well and where I should be in a better position to plan future flower arrangements.

                            G.

Have to admit. I've done now't in the garden. As mentioned before, I can no longer tolerate the heat mainly due to health reasons.
Last evening I decided to to visit Tesco's. As I had spent the day inside with fans working overtime, I ventured out without a jacket. 'B'hell it was like winter, the sudden drop in temperature.

Reading and enjoying as always members posts. May I offer a tip or two. In view of the unusual high temperatures, it may prove beneficial to leave what might be called overgrown areas. The taller plants, whatever they may be will act as a sunshield to others and the soil.
Watering, try and aim at the base of plants and give them a good soaking. Watering perhaps more open areas. Make use of the Dutch Hoe with the blade facing down. Simply use the hoe in short chisel-like movements so as to gently break up the soil surface, gently water and allow the water to soak in. Just tip.

What a glorious day - a day for counting the buds on the agapanthus, marvelling at the wonder of nature and enjoying the glory of the garden. Maybe pulling up the odd weed and deadheading the roses but mostly revelling in the beauty.
