What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2019

@Upsydaisy I have to confess to doing that as well. A rowntrees watermelon iced lolly was my 11's treat. Was sooooo welcome !

 

Not much to be done in the garden today, as the temperature climbs into the upper 30’s....

This morning I fished out some leaves from the bottom of the wildlife pond, netted some algae blooms from the barrel water feature, picked some french beans, and topped up the wildlife pond, watering the insect-friendly flowers (sweet William style dianthus, compact form of verbena Boriensis) on the way back to the garage with the hosepipe.

Now sitting in the shaded lounge, watching the rooks and blackbirds coming in to bathe...

 

I knew it was going to be a warm weekend, I invested in some "heat preventative measures."
I bought two cases of Budweiser yesterday, "I wouldn't want to run out."

 

It’s been misty until just now....now it is blazing hot as though someone has suddenly opened the curtains.

Mind you it was still great down on the beach....Nico esp loved the water.

I am tempted to move a couple of plants but for the sunshine, the cider and the inertia I suffer from now n then (:rasp

 

Back in again. decided to replace the letter box at the end of the drive which was far more difficult than Id expected.

Ended up with an espresso and tonic - lovely !

Just taken a few shots from around the garden - will upload into a folder on our garden soon

 

Fed and watered the chickens, watered the greenhouse plants, did a Very little woodworking, found a nice secluded shady spot, got the lounger out and stripped of naked (not a pretty sight) !!!

 

Jobs in the garden are currently aimed at filling a skip. My wife asked if we would need an 8 yd skip or would a mini skip be big enough.

Three weeks in, including the days I've been rained off and I think I might fill it !!

Nothing until tonight at 7pm then i did the watering, it was too hot until then.

I did the same, I left the hose running on the roots of our big acer, the azalas, rhodos and vibernums (photographed back in May in our front garden) for a good half hour. The tree's a "heavy drinker."


Then the lawn sprinklers went on for fifteen minutes..
The leaky hose that waters the borders from the side of the patio all the way down and round to the wisteria to the left of the tea-house including the bamboo, has been on four two days. (it just makes a dark patch about foot across, no flooding). So I know nothing will be short of water.
No rain forecast in this area from now until at least Thursday.

 

No gardening today. Overcast but very humid. Decided on a bike ride and then decided on a route I've not cycled for awhile. I might have got a bit lost and ended up with a more hilly route than I had anticipated. I stopped counting the hills after the 8th climb, Those hills just suck the soul right out of me, especially when humid, but coming down was fun. Thirteen miles in total ( 21k ). Could have done more but wanted to do some painting.

The yellow flowers I mentioned earlier are Birds Foot Trefoil I think. Very pleased about that .

@shiney I've got a plastic pot saucer filled with gravel and water for my little birds but I've not noticed any bees drinking from it. Maybe I'll try a smaller saucer with less water.

Hi Guys, back again for another summer season..
The grass/lawn area has suffered somewhat and has succumbed to a lot of moss, currently aerating the lawn, and scarifying. I've added a few additions to the garden this year by way of Lupins, Foxgloves, Clematis, London Pride, Primulas, Hydrangea, and Rhododendron. I've been taking petunia cuttings and now they are everywhere. Heuchera too has come under the scalpel. I also came across a stone pagoda for around the pond area which I couldn't resist..Off to Harlow Carr in a couple of weeks specifically looking for some succulents and ferns ..odd I know but I'm running out of room I want to get into Hypertufa this season and I need a couple of concrete hands making for my terracotta man. I also wish to acquire a ventian tailors dummy at some point in time to act as a planting frame (maybe one for 2020 though)...Hope you are all keeping well...I'm off now to peruse the boards to see what you all have been up to this year.
