Cut niece’s lawn whilst that way. Looks like it’s my assigned task now :noidea:

Picked salad stuff.....I’m living on carrots (a recent report said that carrots are better for your complexion than any creams so I’m checking:rasp:).......and fruit. Great crop of blueberries this year

Got a couple of thalictrum coming later....in half litre pots for less than a fiver that will be potted on for full grown plants next year. (Ordered before Carol Kleine’s report on thalictrums on GW last week)

Watering later....it’s been a glorious hot day  I reckon this summer is almost as good as last year, so far:)

So much work to do...hmmm! Who cares? Off to the beach to think about those jobs

Exhausted as didn't get to sleep til gone 2am and then was awake from 5.30am. After taking doggy to training and shopping and making a lasagne and taking other doggie walkies and picking other doggy back up I only managed to do a little bit of dead heading and weeding in the back garden. Now I could fall asleep!

Thank you . I spent all day yesterday painting and pouring coasters and I still haven't got a finished canvas :hate-shocked:. Hoping to complete one today.

At the moment just picking fruit every day and watering, see that there's some weeding to do but it will have to wait. @Verdun how's nico getting on? Haven't seen any pics of him lately.

Soft clean start - picking more sweet peas and flowers for the house then off out to meet a friend for coffee. All dressed up now but I hope to have time to get dirty later in the day:)

Yesterday I pruned the broken branches off the dwarf cherry tree, where the crows had landed on branches unable to take their weight, trying to get to the cherries.

I fished as much blanket weed out of the wildlife pond as I could manage. We had no blanketweed last year, and so much this year. Probably more nutrients as autumn leaves rot down? Or the water was too warm last year? Note to self : must order barley straw for next spring!

I also finished pruning the deutzia following its flowering. Hope @Verdun will say my pruning passes muster! The removed stems, some up to a metre long, were chopped into 2-3” lengths, before being put on the compost bay as a brown layer.

(The lychnis and verbena give you an idea of scale, the foxglove is over 2 metres tall!)

This morning I see that the crows have broken another two branches, probably taking off 2 years’ worth of growth. I am officially not on speaking terms with them!!

I was wondering if anybody has any experience with patio apple trees.

SPECIAL DEAL - Patio Fruit Tree - Compact Apple 'Braeburn' Tree

I was considering buying 1 for each my 3 step daughters as xmas presents. If I bought them now, I could grow them on before transplanting them in their final pots.

Any thoughts / experience would be appreciated.
                      G.

Ha ha Upsy....the heat is certainly getting to you :rasp:
                      Nico is a total joy:)

Snorky, the grass is hackonechloa Macra Aureola. Hmmmm, prob 8 years old! I have several clumps around the garden. Love it, esp when the slightest breeze makes it move like the surf. Very tactile.
All Gold, Sunburst, and the green Macra are all lovely variants of it. Grow it if you can Snorky but bear in mind it’s liking for reasonable moisture. Some shade in dry soils.....add compost and mulch in autumn or early spring

Gary, I grow a fair bit of fruit but have planted and cared for lots of apples, pears, plums, cherries etc. In fact I once cleared a field and made an orchard out of it.

Never grown patio trees but I think they are worthwhile.

So, Braeburn apples need warmth and a reasonably long season of growth as I remember. Self fertile but my feeling is it’s better to grow 2 or 3 different comparable varieties to help produce a decent crop. Is your spot a warm one? If it’s not a crop may not be produced.

Anyway, as I said, I do not grow patio fruit trees so, hopefully, someone who does will suggest otherwise or possibly recommend other varieties :)

Front corner spot with potted heliotrope Chatsworth......the scent is amazing. Not called the cherry pie for nothing. Potted Hakon grass with one in the ground
