The area near our shed has one of our pear trees and the ground is littered with windfalls. It is now a no-go area as the wasps have decided that it's their territory. I tried raking them with a very long handled rake but after only a very short time I was pleased I was wearing good running shoes. :hate-shocked:

We have a similar problem with our windfall apples. I normally wait for a cool/cold morning, and clear a trug-full by hand ... very, very carefully (and wearing gloves).

To a certain extent the pears are doing us a favour as they keep the wasps away from the apple windfalls. Friends have been coming round almost every day for the windfalls - pick up your own - and at least five full carrier bags per day go out. Some of them leave a donation for the charity. Of course, I go down there each morning and pick up the best for us. By Autumn we usually have a small chest freezer full of cooked apple. :blue thumb:

We have the same problem too, more so around our plum trees rather than pear/ apples. The ground is covered with wasps, I tried to clear some of the area yesterday by gentle raking, but had to beat a hasty retreat!!!

              Morning all

              Much nicer weather today

Just spent an hour and a half nursing and repairing the flowers and shrubs in the front garden (24 pots in total) roses, bay trees, rosemary, geraniums, begonias, hydrangea, fuchsia and various flowering ground cover. Repotted some shrubs, tidied the geraniums but the large begonias are all floppy and not happy at all. So turned the pots around (no mean feat, these are very large pots) and the ivy and geraniums are now at the front and all is looking happier and tidier. Gave everything some all purpose food, hoping for some more sunshine to settle them down, but we are forecast rain this afternoon and tomorrow

Not strictly a garden job, but the bin men came while I was out there so once they’d finished I gave the food waste and bottles/cans bins a good hose down and slosh about with some jeyes fluid.

Hoping to find time to sow some winter flowering pansies later this afternoon, packet says sow any time June to December in cooler conditions. This is my first time so I’ll just sow a few and keep an eye on them, maybe leave them in the garage until they germinate.

              Happy Thursday
              Tink

I picked up three carrier bags of apples this morning, picked about 2lb of beans as they've almost finished now and Mrs Shiney sold another £30 of plants and gave them a bag of apples.

I then put up a 20ft Gazebo ready for visitors on Saturday. I needed to get it done before the rain promised for the afternoon and I'm pleased I did it in time as it is peeing down. Rain forecast for tomorrow as well - and strong winds :rolleyespink:. I hope I've pegged it down enough :fingers crossed:

This weekend: empty compost heap, prune Buddleja fallownia and davidii as they are finished flowering, try and take cuttings from a couple of shrubs that have taken a turn for the worse.
Dead heading, weeding, might get the grasscut today or Monday. Tidy up the bed where the neighbours had a fence put up, dig over the trodden down soil. prune broken plants and more work on new bed.

                        Busy then @NigelJ !

More like a duvet day here with the weather

I plan to cobble together (screw, stitch and glue) a frame and clear plastic cover for my small vegtrug (raised bed). Still hoping to get some winter flowering pansy seeds sown, got side tracked on Thursday!

Have a good weekend out there.

Well, by the time we popped out and dodged the roadworks as best we could to bring home the wood for around the lawn, it was lunchtime. After a quick sandwich, off we went to make a start.... only for rain to start and rain off play.

The chap who is my main help left to come back another day, so Mrs C and I headed out once the rain stopped to do a wee bit more and managed to get the slabs and bark down on the left side:

Tomorrow, we are going to pre-paint the boards that are going round the rest of the lawn and will paint the one already installed as well as getting string and plotting out where the next runs of boards are going to go.
