Not all today, but since Friday......Got another potting bench (eBay 99p - damaged but OH fixed it for me) and set it up in my tiny, weeny shed. It’s so satisfying getting everything sorted and in order :)

Harvested more radishes and lettuce. Cleared a couple of rows in the trug for some sowing at the weekend. Picked the last cucumbers and cleared those planters. Took all the tomatoes off from the early plants and cleared those also, but have left the two Gardener’s Delight, with removed leaves hoping somehow the fruit might ripen.

Put the waterproof winter cover on the trug and finished my DIY plastic homemade cover for the little trug (won’t post a pic, the different is obvious to everyone from this distance :) but it will do the job).

Sowed some wild perennial seeds (Kidney Vetch) which are in the cold frame for the next few months to see what might happen.

This year I have been picking up acorns, conkers and pine cones while out with the dogs in the local woods. Have been able to harvest the seeds from the pine cones and now have 13 conkers and 29 acorns in pots out beside the garlic, onions and spring bulbs I planted a few weeks ago. The pine seeds I will try in January (as per Google search). While cleaning up some fallen leaves from neighbours gardens that the strong winds blew over, I found a sycamore seed (helicopter) so will try planting that sometime soon too.

With furlough coming to an end I am back in the clinic two days a week and next week it will be three days and a bit of working from home. I will miss the gardening and growing and know I will have to reign myself in for my plans for 2021. It feels wrong to start and then let the poor things die through lack of time and attention once I am back full time mid October.

If we ever get to move house and semi-retire I am hoping for a big (empty or wild) garden to start a fresh with and have more time to keep everything alive!

    Laptop is calling...........

    Tink

Busy today, taking advantage of the fine weather.
I made this raised bed from old pallets.
It took longer to brush on the wood preserver than to saw the sections. (i used a reciprocating saw)
I've got another section to fit on higher up to give more depth, but i ran out of steam for today.

What are you going to do with your tree sapling @Tinkerbelle61 ?

I mowed the lawn the other day thinking of doing some autumn maintence at the end of the week but may postpone it another week cause the lawn still looking quite good for the time of year.

Started making plans for spring pot displays just need to get a few more tulips and ideally some proper white daffodils , I have loads of bulbs in pots here there I didn't label any because obliviously I'll remember  . No doubt I'll get a barge of emails soon bulbs going cheap but this year I'll not be tempted like previous years , last year wasn't even my fault forum member persuaded me I don't like to name names but it were @ARMANDII fault:heehee:

Nothing to do except water some seedlings. My Lemon Scented and Black Geraniums are several inches high now, I have five Clitoria ternatea (Blue Pea Vine) about two inches high and sadly only one Tropaeolum Peregrinum (Canary Creeper). Also the Mixed Coleus are peeking up.

I just ordered some plug plants from a supplier I use in Wickford, Essex ...

I have two concrete planters I have earmarked for them.

Found a cold and unhappy looking Bee clinging to an anemone yesterday - assumed it was cold and unhappy as in the shade and not moving. Picked it up and moved it to a sunnier spot. Once warmed up it flew off. Weeded out another Belfast sink. Wandered around front garden trying to gather some enthusiasm for making a start on reclaiming the bits that need reclaiming. Pulled blanket weed out of pond whilst I was trying to make a plan. Gave it up and say on patio watching rabbit politics and rat politics. All of my ocean inspired cheese boards/surf boards have sold and most of my coasters and gift shop wants more. The other gift shop has sold a canvas. Going to be very busy for next few weeks so won't be able to tackle big jobs in garden yet anyway. I'm sure it won't mind waiting :).

Managed to get into the GH for an hour. Great! It started to rain and became dark, so on went the light and I listened and enjoyed the 'rytham of the falling rain'. I emtied a Peace Lily from it's pot, hosed off the roots, split up and repotted. I had given a feed to that and a Maranta, and practically killed both.
Then I continued to give the polyanthus a trim. Earlier in the year. I ordered some pansy and polyanthus plugs from J. Parkers. Sadly delivery was delayed and the plants didn't look too good. A quick phone call to Parkers. Sorry about that Mr A, we will send a fresh order. No problems. OK the new ones came and in time the originals picked up, so I was inunsated with them. I nursed many polyanthus in the GH, now I sorted through them and snipped off the leggy leaves and those displaying chlorosis, added a bit of top dressing and all is looking good.

Logan how I envy you. For many years I have grown wallflowers. Sadly now, Zilch. Wallflowers always bring back childhood memories. Infants school. Off I'd go, armed with a very large bunch of wallflowers for the teacher. Happy days.

he last few days have I not done a lot in the garden. Filled two wheelie bins with cut back crocosmia, a couple of buckets of bindweed and continued harvesting. The beans and courgettes have slowed down and I really must cut back the mildewed leaves of the courgettes. That will take up another wheelie bin but the bin men came yesterday and have given me more space now.

People are still popping round, by appointment for the windfalls and I also sold 12lb of rhubarb. It looks as though the rhubarb is going to do very well for the next few weeks as we have a lot of rain promised and lots of young stems have formed.

Deer fence is back up :blue thumb: but one of our chicken wire enclosures has been attacked by the rabbits that have dug under next door's fence. They seem to have learnt that if they jump on to the top edge of the wire they can gradually flatten it. I'll have to put in stronger supports or, as someone suggested, replace it with barbed wire :heehee:. They've dug out a Shasta daisy plant that was 6ft high and 5ft diameter that was in the way of their rabbit run from the fence.

I hope to get some mowing done today before tomorrows rain comes.

Thanks Mike Allen about the wallflowers, I've grown them for a very long time.

Hubby fell asleep so i nipped out to do some pruning while he wasn't looking:heehee: can't do much because the grey bin is nearly full. Can't plant any more wallflowers until the Japanese anemones have finished.

I did get some mowing done and then started cutting back the mildewed courgette leaves. I filled a wheelie bin with them and I tend to use that as my criteria for limiting my work otherwise my back complains. I think I'll finish the leaves with another two bins. They have been extra prolific with their leaves.
