What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2020

Thanks so much @Logan ,I have actually seen these before and it was her advice that I followed last year.
I posted some pics on here at the time as our borders looked as if they were under attack from a load of moles!!!
Trouble was that the birds messed up and scattered the compost, so this year I thought I would try covering the compost with upturned wire hanging basket planters..

 

That's great , @Upsydaisy I just like putting videos up and yes black birds are the worst for doing that. I like dahlias but they don't grow well here and if it's a wet summer the slugs and snails have a feast day, don't use any pellets or anything else

 

I protect all my Dahlias when they first start to shoot ,during the day, with large plastic bottles with their bases removed and then cover them with large flower pots at night, this really works at protecting them from slug/ snail attacks. After a few weeks they put on enough strong growth and aren't bothered by them any more. We don't use pellets or any other kind of bug killer either..the only thing I do is hunt out and squish are Lilly Beetles!!! I feel bad about that too!

 

No, especially as I interrupt them having.......... fun!

 

I'm pleased for you, but up here they'll eat the stronger growth as well.The one year i just had bare stems.

 

The rain finally stopped here early hours so today has been pretty dry. I pottered around checking on things and deadheading a little and just generally tidying up. I've decided I'm going to leave the saliva in the ground this winter they are over 4ft tall and the roots seem pretty deep so I'll cut them down soon and pop some protection on them then pray to the salvia gods to be kind apart from that most things are still in flower
Oh and forgot to add that the philadelphus Snowbelle has begun to flower now which is strange as everywhere I've read says early summer

 

and and and more coupled with strong winds for past 2 days. Keeping birds and rats supplied with food and fresh water in baths/bowls had been my only excursion into the garden . And cleaning out feeding station .

And speaking of poo, yesterday morning I had the experience of Dimitris deciding to trail poo from the litter box in the hallway, through the kitchen and into the bedroom. Big lumps that were stuck on his bum and dropped off. He then proceeded to clean off the remains lumps by eating them . I was almost sick. Currently not speaking to that cat again. Roger was working so I had to clean up the mess. Why did I ever agree to that cat coming here to live !

 

Sounds like Dimitris needs a change in diet..

Was up at my mums/grandmas for a couple of days last week. My two brother came to help out. Older bro built her a big raised bed and my younger bro smashed up an old concrete path and cleared it into a skip ready to plant a hedge boundary instead. He also jet washed the fence.

I cleared a big over grown area (Full of old tree roots ) and put in some edging and levelled off an area for my mums greenhouse to go. Put weed suppressant down for it too. Also cut back the neighbours overgrown tree to let a bit more light in.

We also got rid of an old bath tub my grandma was using to make compost. The garden is far too much for her to cope with now bless her.

Today I've potted up all my bulbs. The cosmos are still blooming so haven't been able to plant them all in the garden yet.

Moved the bird table into a new position in front of the kitchen window...much nicer view now

 

Haven't done anything in the garden today it's been raining again so did things in doors.
