I've just cut down the cape gooseberries and picked the final ripe fruit, there was still lots on the plants but cant see them ripening this late in the season, so cut down the plants to ground level.

Well yesterday I ordered a tonne bag of spent mushroom compost and a half tonne bag of 20mm shingle. To my surprise it turned up today...HIAB lifted it right near to my plot on the lotty! Brilliant! I went up there about 3pm and came back about 4.30pm - I shifted the lot! All the compost gone into the raised beds and all the shingle spread to level off the paths. I'm really really pleased.

The compost was so hot it was steaming - no joke - literally steaming, it was making me hot. ha ha.

We're still trying to make inroads into the weeds in the flower beds. Once that is done then we shall mulch/compost them.

One of my targets today is to shape the large conifer nearest the summerhouse (we have three 'ornamental' conifers in that bed) as the weight of the growth and dampness is causing the branches to fall outwards. It's about 10ft high and 6ft diameter and kept in a conical shape - if it lets us.

No gardening yet but my begonia seeds have just turned up , I may sow them later they seem to take forever to grow after germination . I haven't really cut much back at all in the garden, keeping saying I'll leave it to help the wildlife etc. But to be honest most of it looks a mess except for the odd plant, I do always leave the echinacea I see gold finches feeding on them over winter .

I've been making a custom wardrobe for my bedroom while the weather been wet , couldn't fit the wardrobe in where I wanted ( cubby hole room ) tried knocking the corner in past the door frame with a claw hammer but it didn't move so tried the sledge hammer, only missed and caught the side of my thumb instead :cry3::gaah: blood splatter everywhere across the wall - bed - stairway wall - kitchen floor / cabinets , got a nice cut / gash on my thumb now but the good news its not my sowing hand so them begonia seeds are going to get sown
