I've tidied up the tenders in the greenhouse. A little trim here and there. Opened the windows in there too. The hellebore I have are really looking beautiful and make me smile each morning. I've noticed a few shoots coming up in the pots I bought from a lovely lady earlier in the year. I'm praying they are snowdrops. I've never been able to grow them successfully so fingers crossed.

Hi all, not been on much lately-weather's been awful and had been busy prepping for Christmas-but can relax now!

Did some potting up yesterday inside the conservatory. I still need to tidy up the back garden sunny border but it's too horrible outside to do anything.

Just remembered I've got a "smart" plug in my greenhouse so switched on my grow lamps in there for a bit to help the plants out. He he

Also made a couple of propagators out of mushroom tubs...

I've not caught up with posts on the forum yet, but hope everyone is happy and healthy xx

@Upsydaisy his injuries were life threatening and he would have died had we not found a vet for him. He has had a good life in the UK and has been well pampered, despite the fact I'm not really a cat person.

@Victoria it seems kidney disease is very common in cats. I didn't know that. I spoke to our usual vet tonight and he has told me what to expect. D loves heat too, but then I suppose he would bring Greek. Apart from me his best friend is the log burner at the moment.

No gardening due to :rain: :rain: ( there's a surprise ). Have discovered a :hhog: in one of my houses :).

Another wet day popped out to the GC this afternoon, picked up a quite large Garrya james roof a plant I've fancied for years only cost £3 but I haven't got a clue where I am going to plant it , I don't normally buy plants on a whim. Got a couple bags of compost and a tray of bellis . I did want some better single colour pansy / viola plants but they seem hard to come by this winter. I planted up all my pots with the pansy / viola I had so hopefully they do ok and I have a good show come spring .

Swept the back patio and cleaned up a little. Popped to the local GC for a house plant pot came out with 2 Lavatera Barnsley baby :heehee: no plant pot (not much there) apparently the new stock is stuck at Dover.

I finished cleaning the bird feeders. I have to make sure that Sarafi the cat doesn't come and interfere. Nothing to do with the birds, it's just that he likes to push all the bits and pieces around as I carefully place them in the right order for putting back together.

The last feeder to be done is the biggest and has 62 parts (including nuts and bolts, which also need scrubbing). Scrubbing and washing them is tedious but putting the parts back together is fiddly as it really needs three hands - two to hold the parts in place and a third for the screwdriver. It's made more difficult when you have a cat headbutting your hand! Splashing him with water from the bowl doesn't help as he's a cat that likes water and he wanders round in the rain. He's cute, though, and has now got his winter coat on that is twice as thick as his summer coat. His thick fur repels the rain very well.

:rain::rain::rain::rain::rain:, very heavy rain all day. Fed birds and put out food for hedgehog in evening. Last winter we had Wrens roosting on the power cable attached to the house. This year there are Bluetits. Wonder where the Wrens have gone.

I plan, after finishing the housework ,dinner and prepping tomorrow's veg, to get outside this afternoon to at least sweep all 3 patios as they are covered with chunks of moss that we've seen the birds pecking off from the roof.
Too beautiful a day not to be outside

Bit of a wet play day yesterday but wanted to see how transplantable a privet hedge is. It's been there for years but a single lump probably less than a foot wide yielded about 12 plants! Well established too so instant new hedge somewhere else :) Just have to think where else I need a hedge now...
Really cold out today so a bit of pruning ready for a bonfire and a walk around to think about new things for the garden, money and projects!

Well it was a lovely afternoon out in the garden, despite not being able to feel my fingers because they were frozen!!

Cleared away some leaves and other decaying debris from some of our bigger borders.
I was happily surprised to find several of the young Hellebors that I grew from seed sent to me from a forum member a couple of years ago have begun blooming for the first time ( I had though we'd have to wait another year), a white/ pink one, pink one and what looks like is going to be a red one when fully open . My well established Christmas Rose ones are blooming well too.

Checked over the over wintering plants in the greenhouse and both cold frames, none required watering this time.

Glad to be back inside now and thawing out.:)
