What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2020

Been a busy afternoon popped out to get a few christimas cards to put money in, more titivating with my wardrobe after. Then while the sun was out to the GH I thought it be warm in there but nope, I sowed my Begonia seeds . Back to the house to clean my propagators out, and tidy the unused small bedroom ready to for the sowing season .

Squeezed ten treeferns into the greenhouse. Getting icy round here atm. Going to have sell the 8footer in Spring,just too heavy to move more than a couple of feet now. Griiting the black ice atm.

 

That's a shame @shiney how come you're not opening the garden next year ? At least us on the forum can still have a gander

 

@Perki Covid has shut down everybody's plans as far as socializing in groups since larger than 10 will probably be a no no even come the spring. @shiney has a lovely property and I was lucky to visit a few years back and before all of this nasty virus hit. It's too bad that all of the in person meetings we gardeners enjoy will be cancelled even though we are a gentle group who follow the rules.

I've only been sitting with my drawing of my little garden areas and pencilling in where 2021's annuals will go. Notice I say pencil. I have a large eraser that gets regular use throughout this process!

 

Tidied up greenhouse ie turfed out the peppers, they were laden with greenfly, shame about the remaining peppers though. I then tidied up the insectiverous plants and moved them into the space vacated by the peppers.
Then pruned four buddlejas and stacked prunings for shredding.

 

Nigel. I admit, I know very little about growing insectivarious plants. You mention your remaining peppers being plagued with greenfly. Probably a daft question, but genuine. Could the insectivarious plants have benefitted from the greenfly.

Greenfly and insectiverous plants? Good question, most greenfly are wingless females so they don't really end up on the insectiverous plants. The winged forms do get trapped on the sundews (Drosera), they are too small to trigger the Venus Fly Traps. I have lost a Venus Fly Trap to greenfly infestation a long while ago, also had problems with greenfly on the young growth of pitcher plants. The pitcher plants tend to trap flies and midges as they secrete a sweet nectar like substance around the entrance. Quite often I find spiders living under the hood of the pitcher, or even in the neck of the pitcher with a web across.
The Venus Fly Traps have been known to trap small snails and all that remains is the very brittle shell of the snail, all the protein in the shell having been digested.

 

D.T brown seeds and plants are offering free p&p until midnight on Sunday, ordered 2 pks of chilli plants.with 3 plants in each.

Mr. Fothergills are doing the same but they don't do the very hot chilli plants.

 

Just been siliconing the greenhouse just in case tonights "breeze" fancies sending my glass into a new post code by the morning.

 

Loved having a greenhouse actually had two at one time but husband took over the plot as a work shop that kept him out of mischief, that was when we lived in the UK, would do the same on a rainy day as you can always find something to do in them.We are located in SW France and Greenhouses are around here but not very many.

 

noticed the Ajuga straight away because I have been transplanting some to fight back the horrendous weeds along with whatever I can lay my hands on for free....
Looking very good, we like pots as can be moved about to suit...
