I just got seeds for both. Were they difficult to germinate? They are so tiny!

Just had a nice break in the greenhouse. Took out my mini ipad and had on the last episode of university challenge on whilst I did my trays of nicotiana and pink cosmos. Also tidied up the three Sarracenia I'd brought into the greenhouse. Planted a few leek seeds in half a dozen jiffy cells I found too. Oh and tidied up the lemon scented pelargonium I got from my first visit to shineyland - my hands really smell of it now! Lovely!

Also had our builder round earlier....the new fencing is going in next week! EEEEKKK I'm so excited!

Thanks @Snorky85. This is at the back of the house and south facing. Its a narrow strip and was initially just grass and alternate yellow & red slabs. Needless to say the slabs didnt last long. The main issue with the planting is that it looks rubbish until late spring. A couple of comparative pics just snapped to show the difference (complete with brabantia tree)

Ive tried (and failed) twice. I tried uncovered and in compost in a sealed bag and both ways they didn't germinate. I gave in and bought plants, thinking that this was the cheaper option in the long run.

The good news is that once you have the plants it is dead easy to take cuttings.

Good luck with yours - you may fair better than I did with your sunnier climate.

I was expecting the builder this morning to replace a few damaged panels and posts, replacing with concrete posts and gravel boards. He'd not shown by 10am so I checked the text from him - turns out its next monday that hes coming.

I think that it's just in house fires, ie wood burners and fire grates if you know what i mean.

Was hoping to get down the allotment again but the weather is absolutely atrocious. Handily the Bocking-14 root cuttings I bought turned up a day early, so I've potted them up instead. The idea that these tiny little things will turn into plants that can fertilise a decent portion of our plot is definitely a test of the old faith. With my football teams having pretty average seasons, I didn't have much of that left in the first place.

Must say, I am pretty useless with seed! Where did you buy plants?

The Boliviana Alba I bought from here Search For: Fuchsia boliviana 'Alba' | Farmyard Nurseries

I struggled to find a supplier and ended up looking at the RHS site and checking suppliers from there.

The Boliviana I bought from a local facebook page. There are a few of us who foolishly grow tropical / jungle plants in the UK and the chap who runs the group is 'one of us' so unusual plants come up for sale from time to time. He put two up for grabs and I got one. They were both sold almost instantly.

No problem - I'm happy to spend your money. I had an email chat with the owner and hes never managed to get these seeds to germinate so I don't feel too bad now

Well, there's a challenge and a half for me. Planted about half my seeds yesterday. Have them outside in a 'hot spot' ie kitchen patio. If all fails, I will order from Farmyard Nurseries as I desperately want one. Guess you know the berries are edible?

@andrews It's such a challenge trying to make our gardens look good all year. I have been reading Nick Bailey's "365 days of colour in your garden" and would love to make it look good all year - that's my next big challenge after sorting out the front garden.

We've just put in planning permission for a carport at the front side of our house to further block out the evil neighbours. Whether we get it or not we still have got the permission to put the fence all the way round so can block them out whatever.
