Ive never had luck with sprouts and broccoli. Must be our soil they don't like.

Vitopods are great if you need more room or a specific temperature. I bought one last year and would love to be able to justify a second. Temperature control means Ive had much more success with tropical plant seeds

Yes, that went last week :dbgrtmb: They did a good job of boarding out the neighbour's garden before cutting it up. They first brought the chipper down his driveway, which runs into his back garden, and took everything the 200ft to it. They had parked their big wagon in my driveway and when they had finished all the chipping they swapped vehicles over. They then logged the tree (my neighbour had a stack of it) and loaded it and drove their vehicles away.

They arrived at 7.45 and left at 3.30 and worked without a break - apart from some cuppas we made for them.

They did a very good job of tidying up after themselves. :blue thumb:

Yesterday the weather was sunny but cold, so i put on 2 pairs of trousers and a fleece jacket over my top and went out to plant some more polyanthus and plant up a tub with hyacinths and polyanthus. Hubby trimmed the hawthorn hedge in the back garden. It made me feel a lot better doing it.

I always wear two pairs of trousers out in the garden during the winter months too.
Spent most of the day out in the garden , deadheading, mulching and generally tidying up after the recent storms. Planted out the bag of forgotten rockery tulips...a bit late I know so :fingers crossed:.
As it's going to be a gorgeous day (and thankfully the wind seems to have disappeared ) today I plan to sort out and plant out all the summer bulbs.

            Have a great day!!:spinning:

Nothing like a day in the garden to blow away the winter blues is there!:)

Took all our overwintering plants out to have a good drink and to enjoy the warm ( ish) sunshine.

Started up some double Begonias, did some dead heading and helped hubs mend a corner of our tall cold frame that runs along the side wall of our house that took the full force of the recent storms. As I had already taken out all the plants from the shelves it was a fairly easy job and only took an hour.
So now all the sun tanned and thirst quenched plants are snuggled back inside their mended winter home.:)

Have sorted out the summer bulbs and cleaned a few pots for them to go in.

I have done the same thing that I always do......have a bag of dug up bulbs that are all mixed up. Will I ever learn!:wallbanging:,

That's why each year I have to buy new, but then I haven't the heart to chuck the mixed bag away. This is the reason why our borders look a bit of muddle, as I don't know what I'm actually planting...much to hubs dismay!:heehee: He prefers neat borders but if I'm truthful I like them a bit messy.;)

It rained throughout the morning which was really frustrating as I wanted to be out in the gardening doing various jobs. But it wasn't until the early afternoon until the Sun actually came out and things started to dry out. So, I settled for an amble around the garden to give me an idea of what is going on......and what is not!

Cleared the little border at the bottom of my garden of weeds, the tiny bits of Geranium versicolor I planted in late Summer are starting to bulk up a bit, so is my Geranium phaeum (biggest clump in the photo) and sanguineum. Potted on my Hebe 'High Voltage'. Would have liked to prune the buddlejas and to have potted on the rest of the plants that desperately need it (monarda, aster, perovskia, echinops) but rain has stopped play for the moment. :wallbanging: I want to remove the sanguineum (which is at the far left of the fence) and have a cheeky go at growing a caryopteris there, but I'm not sure the heavy clay soil is appropriate, even if adapted with some sand and/or grit. My Lonicera 'Halliana' is growing up a tree ATM but will be transplanted to the far right of that fence so it can grow into the netting, will be much easier to prune too! Pruned my Spiraea billardii 'Triumphans' yesterday but I'm not sure I'll be keeping it, doesn't seem particularly pollinator-friendly. :dunno:

I went out into the garden merely to replace the large Watering Can in the Green House with a smaller one, which would make it easier not to get water all over the place, and ended up on my knees doing a bit of weeding. The borders are so wide that I have to do a section from one side and then go around to the other side to get the rest of the weeds but I've managed to clear 99% of the small just starting to grow annual weeds in most of the areas. As I mentioned before I carried out a two year intensive campaign against the Couch Grass that loves my sandy borders and on today's deweeding I found 4 isolated green shoots of Couch Grass poking their heads up. It's very rare that I resort to Chemicals but Couch Grass is an exception, so those 4 shoots got carefully painted with Weedkiller which should see them off. All in all, I just enjoyed being on my knees doing a bit of deweeding on a nice mild day!!:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:
