Okay, now I'm showing my ignorance. What is an offset? I know what it is when doing construction but :dunno:[/QUOTE]

Hi Lori, with bulbs like Alliums, Daffs, and Tulips you'll find little bulblets attached to the sides. If left, while in the ground, those bulblets will form into a clump.
So, when I ordered the giant sized Alliums I found a lot of those bulblets attached to the sides so I took them off and potted them on. Those bulblets will produce flowers identical to the parent bulb. I was surprised to find bulblets on the Alliums as they were expensive and you normally find the grower will take off the bulblets to grow on for their own stock.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

@CanadianLori it’s amazing how much neighbours and what they do can impact on your life. I’ve been having counselling and feeling much stronger and this fence just feels like the icing on the cake.

They've done a grand job on the fence Snorky. :blue thumb: I wonder what THE neighbours are thinking now? :)

ha ha, i already know what THE two evil neighbours are thinking. Lol. Weve got a planning app in for a carport (a very low height one on our own land) and they wrote a huge objection and said they hate our fence (but didnt object tothe planners). Also that we dont need a carport (even though they have one) and ours would block out their light (it will do no such thing as the roof angle to their big windows is 3degrees. Anything under 25degrees is acceptable. They said we dont own our land (yes we do its on our land registry deeds!!) Also apparently they think we need planning permission for our hot tub!!! :lunapic 130165696578242 5: i think it is a case of sour grapes as we are half their age and theyve made snide little comments about it. Doesn’t matter that weve worked ourselves silly over the years to achieve what we have.

the saga continues....what are they going to think when we get our 23 x 3.1m high pleached trees arriving :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

i just dont get why they want to be nasty to their immediate neighbours. Why can’t some people just be civil? Very sad.

Today got to repair the fence at the bottom as the top wire snapped in the wind, shouldn't grow honeysuckle on it I suppose. Also cut back honeysuckle.

@Snorky85 we had similar objections from our then neighbours when we applied to renovate our tumble down barn.

They upset the previous owners of our house who built a 7 - 8' breeze block wall to shut them out. When we moved in they mentioned this and we let them remove two layers of blocks from the wall to reduce the impact.

They complained that we would be blocking their light with the barn - they are south of our barn and they rebuilt the other half of the barn into a three storey house.

They went to the planning department and asked for a site visit (daddy was well in with the council and played the system). A coach arrived with planning plus the hangers on to look at the site.

At the second hearing they suggested that we make our games room into a bungalow and have the barn as a games room .

It was all delaying tactics from a poisonous woman who always wanted her way. It failed, they failed and we got permission. We celebrated in the only way possible - fish and chips all round. I was told that it would be inappropriate to let off fireworks that night.

A few months down the line and their house was up for sale  and we heard that they were getting divorced. Again, the fireworks were not approved.

Building stared and they wanted £100 a day for us to erect scaffolding on their land. We highlighted the party wall act and mentioned that they would be in dispute if they wouldn't allow the scaffolding. And that any disputes need to be reported to potential new purchasers.

It may sound uncharitable but I hope that her issue with planning helped to split them up as her husband was a decent bloke.

I guess what I'm saying is hang in there - the changes will be eating your neighbours up.

:rain: more :rain: more :rain: with strong winds and when not :rain: it's been :cloudy: and cold. Although, there have been few mornings or afternoons that have been vaguely sunny but still cold enough to need two fleeces and a hat. I thought it was supposed to be Spring :dunno:. I've managed to get a few jobs done but not as much as I would have liked. Yesterday I didn't do anything except peer into the pond and sit on the bench with a pack of hungry baby rats with their mum and older sisters scoffing food at my feet. At the moment it's :rain: and windy again but we did put up a bird box this morning. Bit late I know but there's still a chance. The Crows have begun repairing their nest in the pins tree and the Maggies are doing the same in the Hawthorne hedge by the patio. I hope the weather improves for them soon. It seems that winter has just gone on and on with no let up. On a more positive note I've sold a Rabbit painting :)

Removed the polycarbonate sheet 'telephone box' from around the Butia. It didn't really need the winter protection this year. Theres a couple of new spears well formed so I'm looking forward to seeing the extra growth.

Then went to the tunnel and removed a load of oxalis from some of the plants. Prized a spikey aloe (aloe zebrina I think) out of the pot and removed a load of pups. Planted these up.

Sprayed weed killer on the ground of the fruit cage in readiness for putting membrane on the floor. Didn't get to use the fruit cage last year but I'll need the space this year.

Sowed Dioscorea eliphantipes and Yucca alifolia as I had space for a couple of small pots in the prop.

Took the lemon tree and tree fern from the tunnel and put these in pots in the garden - will return them to the tunnel if really bad weather is forecast.

Had a quick nose around and most of the tropical plants have survived. I think I've lost a couple of bananas but most are showing new growth.

How long does that take to pot on all of them @Cuttings and what else are you growing? Its nice to see some nursery's still grow plants and don't buy all there stock in. Think I'll be pricking out my seedling tomorrow.

@ARMANDII thank you for the explanation about off sets. I hope I get some one day. :)

I haven't done much today other than sow a few seeds to replace ones that didn't germinate.
