What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2020

I didn't do as much as I should have but I figured tomorrow will be a sunny day and I'd rather be out then.

I did bring up the fertilizer injector and hooked up the distribution side. It will still be too cold for at least three more weeks to connect the water supply.

I got grass seed sown down in one side of the yard on bare patches and topped with soil. Planted the asparagus seedlings in the bare corner of the asparagus bed. Filled all of my one gallon pots ro be ready for potting up the hot peppers next month. I did this now because I didn't remember how much potting soil I would need for those. Got lots left

 

Dig dig, whack whack. The front bed is under attack.

When we moved in three years ago, it had an overaged lavender, spectacular Erigeron, sickly Hydrangeas on a concrete like clay covered with optimistic layer of bark mulch.

I have been digging into the clay as needed bases to plant something, but now I'm doing a great dig half fork deep, breaking the clay with a tool I can't name, you know, half pick axe, half fork.

The difference is already remarkable, I'll take some photos tomorrow.

Also took a lot of cuttings of Vinca Minor to go in the front once the Heathrow3 has been converted into a soil where something might actually grow.

 

Forty four small buckets bailed out of septic plant and eleven larger buckets carried across to the soak away yesterday morning. Same again in the evening . Had the washing machine on so tank filled up quicker. Quaint !!

Had a short 10 mile bike ride around the lanes, most of it cycling into a strong, cold wind, which made the hills seem twice as long and steep. Not much energy for gardening when I got back but I did empty large sink on the patio of compost and a Mexican Fleabane. Refilled with soil and the recently bought Thyme and Chamomile. Not sure where the Fleabane will go, probably around the pond area somewhere. Sat on a wooden patio chair afterwards for awhile watching the Sparrows. No sparrowhawk .

Can someone tell me what this is please? Growing along the lanes where I cycled and attractive to Bees.

 

Yesterday prunings shredded, grass mown and weeds weeded.
Today more weeding and generally cultivation, hopefully keeping out of the breeze.

 

Same here too @shiney , the ground is like working on a rock face ....in fact I can't even remember when we last had any rain!

Plan to plant out some Honesty that I had forgot about , found them yesterday in bloom . I sowed them last year and tucked them away for safekeeping.....I'm always doing that!!

Then I will continue tidying the remaining borders and potting on the seedlings , Also hope to get round to revamping some of the pots as well.

I've seen it around here but don't know what it is, asked hubby and he said that it's a wild plant with blue flowers.

 

Looks like Honesty to me.

I'm not sure as leaves look different to me. The plants I saw are actually darker than the photo, both leaves and flowers. I have only seen them along this one lane and just along one stretch of the verges. I thought maybe something escaped or self seeded from a garden around there

 

Definitely not Lunaria ( Honesty ), their flowers gave 4 petals in a cross shape ( similar to Wallflowers ).
As a wild guess have a look at Brunnera ?
