Yesterday morning was so beautiful that after the septic tank bailing I sat on the bench with a coffee. I had refilled the feeders and scattered food on the floor, so there was plenty of company of the feathered kind. Didn't see one rat, too early for them (7.00am ), they don't usually appear until around 9.00 ish :heehee:. After coffee I yanked out more couch grass and had a peer into the pond. There are still two pots that need sorting out and lots of other jobs to do in front garden. I can only work out there when the buns are not outside as the runs are in the back garden and out of my line of sight.

Yesterday afternoon I potted up my last Lavender plant. I've not had a lot of success with growing Lavender but these plants were quite cheap to buy at £1.99 per pot so I thought I would have another go. I've varied the pots a bit as an experiment to see how they get on. I have a largeish Lavender that I planted in the ground three years ago, just dug a hole and stuck it in, no gravel and the soil is a little bit clayish. It has done quite well there :dunno:. Most of my other attempts with Lavender have failed.

I made a start on reclaiming the flower bed under the cherry tree in the side garden. It's very overgrown with couch grass and creeping buttercup. Spent about half an hour on it and filled barrow three quarters full. Still a way to go to get it back to being a flower bed. Chilled on the patio for rest of afternoon listening to birds and entertained with Rabbit Politics :)

There is the most awful smell of death in the back garden:sad:. I cannot trace it. I got a faint whiff a few days ago and it's gotten worse, heat hasn't helped either. It's overpowering in a certain spot but there is nothing around that area. It looks like there are hogs in two of the houses so I don't want to disturb them. In the past I have discovered hogs sleeping wit a dead rat and a dead hog in those houses :hate-shocked:. I think the smell is coming from somewhere in the hedge but not sure.

      @luciusmaximus
It's not Arum maculatum (Cuckoo Pint) growing in the bottom of the hedge is it?

We've had to stop gardening as it's too hot out there. The promised thunderstorms seem to have disappeared from the charts. They now say we have a 20% chance of rain in the early hours. I won't hold my breath.

Take it easy shiney, we all have extra time to do all our jobs.

Hot and sunny Ramsgate, I spent a couple of hours mixing some Potato compost = 5 x own compost to 10 x Coir, mixed with feed; ready to top up my bags.

Got rid of three Lilly Beatles.............two of which were having more fun than I've had in a few years:yikes:

Had another productive day today. Removed a tayberry that was doing nothing - there was very little root growth so that's in the skip. Planted some climbers - Bower vine, silk vine and banana passion flower.
Planted out some less tender succulents - an ice plant, yucca whipplei, aloe polyphylla and an aloe striatula.
Weeded part of the top border - the warm weather has really helped the weed growth.
Planted out a chamerops humilis that was really pot bound - that's another spare pot to fill. Planted a yucca (type unknown).
Trimmed some of the messy petioles from the palm trees.
Then set about cleaning the front end of the pond filter which is a messy job.
                      Done for the day now.

I managed to weed a small bed which is quite shady so hadn't dried to be rock hard. It has...by its own design really....become a spring wildflower-y bed. Many self seeded primroses & bluebells. It looks so pretty at the moment, but will lack any interest during the summer.
It has house or hedge on 3 sides so is quite cool and shady. I need to put in maybe 1 or 2 larger plants which bloom during the summer - but trying to keep to the wildflower theme (I like roses, and the size would be right, but would seem out of place in that area). Any suggestions gratefully received please. The bed is about 2metres x 1 metre.

This morning I did some more digging out of couch grass and strawberry weed and then trimmed the edges of the front lawns. I'm only doing it in short sessions. :)

I'm going back out as it has cooled down a bit after some thunder and a brief amount of rain. Another half hour of couch grass should do me for the day. :blue thumb:

Hoeing and a bit of weed killing... It's a rental so I'm loathe to do much but the place is a forest of weed and bramble! Really gets my goat when the contract says the tenant will keep garden in good order and weed free! Not a chance pal.

I am steadily working through the branches from the buckthorn that came down yesterday. We are not allowed to burn anything so it all has to be cut into a small size, bundled up and then put at the kerb. This stupid tree had more angles to it than a scammer! It was supposed to rain but I disagree with the guessers and think I'll get this job done before anything moves in.;)

I have soil blocks with seedlings to pot up today too. A much more pleasant task!
