What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2020

Because I can't stand the noise @Logan. The only powered tools I own for the garden are my petrol lawnmower and an electric strimmer, necessary evils.

....Which makes it worse having to clear up from neighbouring trees @andrews. Mine will have to come down in the next few years as they are slowly dying. At the moment they give me screening from the road and the garden will look very empty when they're gone. I'll replace them with something evergreen when the time comes.

 

Thanks to everyone for sympathy re toe - getting a tetanus jab tomorrow - my last one was in 2001. I've now finished the spraying, but finding it impossible to get the Wilko willow colour paint for my shed. Everyone else is doing their fences and sheds at the moment!

 

Been concentrating on the plinths for the pergola, things were going great then the sds drill bit I'm using has just lost it's drilling tip and it's the only one I've got of that size, so I've done an online order from toolstation for a couple of bits and various other stuff, I've had the post supports since last year and wish I'd had a good look at them when they came the holes are right in the corner, that means I've got to mess about with them to take the bolts I've got

 

Finally got this beauty up.
Wanted it last year but yes never got to it.
It means the honeysuckle on the left grew with little supervision last year.

I think the roses are too close together now I look at it but they needed to go in.

Let's see how they develop over summer.

Tied up some of the loganberry plants that i should of done last autumn. It was very difficult because of all the flower buds on them. The canes grow very long and sometimes they break because of it, they're slowly spreading.

 

Baking hot today round the back by our greenhouse ...and what job did I stupidly decide to do??. Empty all the contents of our greenhouse and wash it!! It took me most of the day , but I did chuck out loads of unwanted things, and now it looks quite respectable.....for a while!!

Did some deadheading. Hubs has slightly extended a border... a bit more planting space

Went for a walk early evening, our lane has erupted into Spring mode since we last walked it. Surprisingly we didn't see a soul, but the bird song was beautiful.

Back home to face the job of putting all the plants back in the greenhouse for the night.

 

I was decorating today, but in between coats I have sown some carrots and jet washed most of the paving around the be area. It was already hard landscaped when we moved in, found out there is not a lot for water to drain from. I have also fixed the tap on the barrel I use to brew comfrey feed in, as I trod on the other one and snapped it. I have been watching a lot of Charles Dowding videos over the last week and have set up a bit of an experiment. He sows everything bar carrots and parsnips in modules. So I have sown some radish in modules and also in rows as I usually do, just to see if there is any difference.

Everything has dried off from jet washing yesterday. It’s looking loved again.


Had no where for my canes to go as they were standing up the shed and I was forever knocking them over so I have knocked these up from scrap timber I had.

And fitted them under the roof of the chicken run. All nice and tidy and out of the way now.

Just been to the veg beds and the bed I have sown my carrots and radish in have been destroyed by the kids. They have dug it all up whilst I was boarding out the utility .

Is there anything I can do other than wait for everything to germinate, get rid and start again?

At the moment I've given up trying to tie the BlackBerry canes up,the ground is so hard i can't push the bamboo canes into the ground and the blackberries have grown into the apple tree which has a lot of blossom on so going to leave them, well it's one job that i don't have to do.

 

Moving pots around in the greenhouse trying to find more space was pretty much it for me. It only got up to 36f and was windy and snowed as well. I did manage to figure out a to do list for tomorrow so as not to be prowling around and accomplishing nothing. One I'm looking forward to is moving the soil blocks for my carnivores into little pots.

Also been wondering about Verdun and Doghouse Riley. I value friends so much and when they suddenly disappear I tend to wonder all sorts. PLEASE. If any member has a close relationship with such one. Please pass on the love and forum best wishes.

 

No gardening yesterday. Did an 18. 5 mile, hilly bike ride in morning along a route we've not done before. Anglesey is such a beautiful island when the sun shines and even better now there are no tourists here. I was tired from pedalling up lots of long slow hill climbs but recovered after a shower and late breakfast. Couldn't be bothered to garden so lounged on a zero all afternoon in shade enjoying the Sparrows, baby Rats scampering around, Rabbit Politics and the emerging flowers. No sign of Mr Chaffinch.

I did hose out the feeding station late afternoon as quite dirty in there. No really gardening I suppose.
