Hello, quickly visited The Range (first time shopping apart from food shopping) for a compost. Luckily they had Jack's Magic compos, took 4, will last for entire season.

Can't keep a track of the weather here at the moment, it seems to be flipping from blue skies to rain to insane hail and back again every time I glance out the window.

I've been slughunting for the last few evenings; most years I use nemtaodes every 6 weeks, but I didn't bother this year as we *thought* we'd have moved house by now :rolleyespink: - and goodness me you can tell the difference! I don't think I had fully appreciated how well the nematodes were working until now, my hostas are already on their way to ribbons and the primroses not much better. Even things like the heuchera are taking a battering and they're usually not touched at all.

In-between slug destruction I'm also having stern words with the dahlias and tomatos; they're growing too well, too quickly :th scifD36: I need them to stay small enough to sit tight in their respective smaller pots until we can finally move, it's going to be much later planting them out than usual

Sorry to hear about your Viburnum and rhamnus @shiney , allow its sad to lose a plant even ones which have been with you for many years I try to see it as a opportunity to grow something new.

Tulips are looking great @ARMANDII all that time planting them has paid off :dbgrtmb:

I am inundated with aphids :gaah: so been squashing away and sprayed any plant that looks like it has some except for any plant which is due to flower soon.

More watering in the GH I mange to boot a strawberry plant which I just put down

Verticut the lawn and still on the attack :paladin: against poa annua , a fight I seem to be losing.
Just been having a wander round the garden hoping my beard iris will flower for once , I am going to have a right tamtrum if I get no flowers this year plants may go flying :catapult:

Well another busy but enjoyable day in the garden. Potted up 7 Strawberry plants into hanging baskets and gave them a feed. Repotted some of the tub Fuchsias with fresh compost and feed. Staked some more plants ....got it right this year and staked early :dbgrtmb:

Weeded the front 2 patio borders.
Has anyone grown Snakeshead Fritillaria from seed....had ours a few years now and I had hoped they would multiply.Wondered if I could harvest some seeds and sow in pots?

@Perki Hi Perki, do you know the name of the Iris and/or if it flowers early, mid, late season?
It wouldn't do it any harm to give it weekly feed of something with high potash content.

Since I had to work today, very little. It's been cloudy and cool anyway. Only watered and checked out the weather forecast. Tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful sunny day but after that we are back in the cooler. Calling for snow by Thursday..

Hi Snorky, well, the Grower's right you can leave them outside all year but you're also doing the right thing by bringing them into the Green House in the Winter as they would not like a prolonged and heavy frost.

Well, I can only tell you what I do to grow the Sarracenia :dunno: They go into a pot about 8 inches wide and I fill the first quarter with Spaghnum Moss and the rest with Moss Peat mixed with some Perlite. I keep the pot moist but not swimming in water and I only water them all with rain water not tap water and they don't need feeding. They will come out of the Green House as soon as I can plant all the Hardy Perennials that are on the table in from of the Kitchen window as that is where they will go.

Looking at your pic, Snorky, the foliage and Pitchers look like last years growth. Sarracenias start regrowth at the end of March and in April so you could trim off what's in the pot as it will not regrow. Try rubbing your fingers over the top of the Pitchers and if the tops feel rough and papery then they're definitely last years growth and "done".
So you need to restart the Sarracenia back into growth and see red shoots push up, so my advice is to put it back into the Green House in bright light, trim off the old Pitchers and "leaves", keep the pot damp with rain water, and only rain water, and see what happens, while telling the plant what will happen to it if it doesn't restart growth.:heehee:

The iris is supreme Sultan, I've been using the potash today on the strawberries only thought about feeding them after I come back inside and had a moan about them. :dbgrtmb: dont know if its a late or early flowering variety .

I haven't done much again in the garden today (still Decorating) :gaah:
I did have a quick check around. My seedlings seems to be poking through so I must of been sewing them too deep. One of my Delphinium seem to have taken a good beating in the rain. I'm hoping it perks up over the next couple of days. The laurel is still alive too :love30:
I'm hoping to get some bulbs in too over the next couple of weeks. I miss the Narine's, Allium and even the Daffodils over spring .

@Perki That's a nice Iris, Perki, which got an Honorable Mention (1990) and an Award of Merit (1992). It should get to around 40 inches tall, it's Class is "Variegata", it's known as a "Ruffled Lace" and it's a Late Flowering Iris so July/August.........so you could start a weekly feed of, say, Tomato Feed to give it that boost and chance to trigger it into flower.
Can I ask some daft questions such as is the corm exposed to the Sun as it should be? , have you ever divided the Iris, say, every three or four years in the traditional method?
I use the Doddington method which is to divide Iris every year but not to lift the Iris but to divide it in the soil.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

The plants are quite youngish still coming into their 3rd year , I bought them in 9cm pots so the first year were going on. The rhizomes are south facing so they can get a good baking but probably over shadowed at times by other plants ( to many plant not enough space ) , seen as its a late flowering type they possibly plenty of time yet and they look healthy, I'll give them a high potassium feed see if that kicking them into growing some flower buds :)
