So, what are you going to do instead @HarryS ? :heehee:

Did it mention what *time* that rain cloud passes over Wigan? Precisely? You may still have time to have a whizz round with your mower

No Cherub, you really don't :rasp: (can't have you straining your poorly eye now, can we?).

made myself useful , tidied the garage . Found 2 boxes of Mrs H clothes from when we moved here 12 years ago. Hopefully we can give them to the charity shop when she makes a decision!

I got as far as looking out off the window but it's been raining so I'll try to make a start on sorting my pots another day - hopefully tomorrow.

Finally got my ensetes dug up tonight, couldn't believe how dry the soil was when digging them up. They were heavy too, now on there sides in the GH draining water out. Must get the bedding dug up but still looking good.
I've brought 200 daffy and tulips to get in

Went picking sloes today and thought planting a few berries to grow my own in the future would be an idea. The bushes were crawling with various birds so the new bushes should be good news for the local birds too.

I just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU :ThankYou: to @Zigs for travelling up to my house and arriving at 8am to spend a full day helping me to lift all my plants out of the garden and re-potting them ready for a move next week. Thank you so much, for all your advice, help, the too and fro-ing from B&Q and Garden Centres to get the right pots and compost:psnp:

Mr AB and I are so grateful as to do this all on my own in one day would have been impossible. Thanks Zigs your a :star: :ccheers:

Taking out the Pampas Grass without cutting it down was interesting and not a cut or scratch in sight :dbgrtmb:

It's difficult to show what we've been doing to some parts of the garden. We've been revamping them.

In the left background of this picture (taken a few years ago - couldn't find a more recent one) we have two giant Philadelphus and a giant evergreen Deutzia. They were both over 60 years old and taking up too much space for the short flowering time. They were growing up to 10ft high each year and creating too much of a dark area.
                              P1100768.JPG

So, with great difficulty, we've removed them, dug, composted and manured the area. It's difficult to show the area properly but here are a couple of shots
                              P1300487.JPG

                              P1300488.JPG

As we've had a drought here we have only just been able to move some plants from elsewhere in the garden. We had to heavily water the areas they were coming from so we could dig them up safely. You can see from the footprints above that the area they had to go to was also very dry. So that had four hours of a sprinkler to get it in condition.

Then we started planting. Being at the back of the bed we needed plants that would grow fairly big but could be pruned successfully.

                              So we've started planting.
                              P1300602.JPG

This Katsura (Japanese maple) was a baby taken from our large one and planted March 2015 in our new bed in the front. That new bed was where we took out the 22 x 40 year old Leylandii - giving us a bed 55ft x 4ft to fill. We composted and manured that bed so well that the plants are getting too big :rolleyespink: :heehee:.

                              So the Katsura was moved
                              P1300607.JPG

So was the Fatsia Japonica Spider's Web
                              P1300606.JPG

and the golden Leycesteria (we've still got two, rather large, green Leycesteria to move from that bed as well but haven't decided where to put them). This golden one was only 6" high 18 months ago.
                              P1300605.JPG

We've also planted this Hydrangea Phantom at the back as it can reach 12ft (but we'll keep it cut back).
                              P1300608.JPG

Although this next one doesn't look much at the moment it should suit the area with its dark purple foliage and cream flowers. We'll need to keep an eye on it as it suckers!
                              P1300609.JPG

The little shoots you can see in this picture are from the Lysimachia purpurea. They will be dug out from this area (not an easy job for us) and we shall replace them with something . They look good with their purple leaves and yellow flowers but they're fairly invasive and we're trying to cut down on how much maintenance we need to do.

My local Homebase are continuing to sell off loads of their own branded stock so went for an early trip and now have some buckets and two large bottles of all purpose garden feed for the amazing sum of 55p each, reduced from £4.99!

I've started off a hyacinth bulb in a glass vase for flowering over winter and put it somewhere dark and cool to start it off. (Never done one of these before so hope it works!)

Also picked up some loppers, winter pansies, viola, cyclamen and Spring bulbs.

The buddleja at the front of the house has grown like mad this year so have trimmed that with the new loppers and have saved some of the thicker stems and branches to dry out - and hopefully use as supports for growing things next year. (Don't know if this will work but it's worth a try!)

Haven't had the time of late to go outside and sort the garden... So the weeds have taken over completely. The rest of the day and tomorrow will be busy- making up a hanging basket, weeding like crazy, and putting cyclamen and Spring bulbs in!
