You are right Jack - the back and one side will have to be glazed from the inside or with a bit of contortionism; not looking forward to that bit at all.

I've spent this afternoon lifting and relaying the slabs that will be under the greenhouse - there was a row of them at the back that had dropped about four or five inches. Its still not bowling green level, but its a hell of a lot better.

The latest plan is to pop to Wickes in the morning and get some lengths of 4 x 2 to mount the greenhouse onto, the logic being that we can then easily pack any gaps between the wood and the ground.

Today's the day that I get to play with mecanno and glass!

 

Well, we got quite a bit done, but didn't finish - over the next couple of afternoons we will hopefully get it finished off:



The levelling of the ground that I did yesterday had to be in sympathy with the rest of the slabs, so it was more a case of smoothing it out a bit - although this improved things dramatically, the ground still wasn't properly level so we had to construct a base from 4 x 2, and then support it at intervals where needed. I will probably have to screw on some bits of ply or something to cover the gaps under the frame (not sure what to do with them yet to be honest).



We decided that it was best to quit for the day whilst still in reasonable mood and not end up rushing the job as it would only end in tears if we did. Besides, a warm bath and a Bacardi was calling......

Its got a real quality feel to it - doesn't feel flimsy like some greenhouses I have seen in the past, and although the instructions are pretty dire we are managing to plod our way through. Our theory is that its best just to plod away with it and get it right rather than rush and bodge it.

 

Great job, FC. I've no idea how you're going to fix the glazing on the shed side if you're using conventional clips There doesn't seem to be an inch of room there!!! Regarding the base, unless your ground was as flat as a billiard table then you will always have gaps, like I did, between the base and the ground. I cured the problem by using a gun with clear silicone sealant pumped into the gaps to stop the Munchies sliding their way through and it has worked 100%.

 

There is about four inches between the shed and the greenhouse, and at the back of the shed there is a 'path' big enough to walk up that takes me to the rear left corner - so, the 'theory' is that we will start the glazing at the front left side working from the inside, and by the time we get to the back one of us will have to go up the back of the shed; then, we plan to work from that corner along the back (6 to 8 inch gap between the greenhouse and the shed) again working from inside until we get to the rear right corner which is accessible from the garden. The roof..... well, it will be from inside again (in fact, we might even do it before the sides?)

As for the gaps under the frames, some of them are quite big - certainly too big to silicone; I was pondering the idea of sandbags or something, but not sure how I'd get them into position. the other option is to cut some plywood strips and then screw them onto the inside of the wooden base, and then maybe run a bead of silicone along the bottom of that.
