Lots of us on here dry our tom seeds on paper - but we usually use kitchen paper as it's more flexible. We just take the seeds from the toms using the point of a knife (we don't bother to wash all the bits of tomato off the seeds) and place them on the kitchen paper. in a grid, approx 1.5 inches apart. Leave it to dry out, write on the back of the paper, beforehand, what the seeds are, roll it up and store it. When ready to sow - put compost on seed tray, wet it, lay paper on top, keep slightly damp and warm. When they germinate and have reached the pricking out stage the paper will have rotted away. Simples :heehee:

I don't have that much propagator space! I sow mine 1/2" apart, but I prick out very early (seed leaf stage usually - I don't wait for the, more commonly recommended, "true leaf" stage)

The job today is removing the glass and moving the greenhouse frame off it's base (my neighbour is having it for his daughter) ready for a new extended base for a bigger greenhouse.

That does save space :dbgrtmb: but I suppose it depends on how many plants you want. With seeds 1.5" spacing a half size seed tray should do 15 plants (you only need .75" for the seeds at either end :)) .

I'm on 1/4 sized seeds tray - can fit more-per-propagator that way :)

But 1.5" spacing would be better if allowing them to grow-on-a-bit before pricking out.

Definitely better than this spacing: :hate-shocked:

Done virtually nothing today as I'm a bit under the weather. Had a walk to village and back in the warm sunshine. Then fed the birds, cut back a load of sylibum marianum (not sure we should have 'bum' and 'anum' in the same phrase) picked beans and planted onions.

Nearly finished the fence along the edge of our patio to seperate the main garden from our boys 'playground' (main reason for this is our youngest is now walking and it gives him freedom to play without us having to to constantly watch him near the steps etc in the garden), put the gate up last night, just need to make it look a little more attractive, I'll wait until I've done it before I reveal what I have planned..

              Secured the damaged fence,
Repaired the cracked cast iron down pipe with fibreglass
Bought a dozen heavy duty rubble bags ready for the trip to Dundee enviromental
compost, bag it yourself 50p a 160 ltr bag
I have just got to work out which will be cheaper, the travel costs to Dundee and 50p a bag OR the £2 bag it yourself Horse Muck Locally

Planted winter pots and hanging baskets. I've had the plants a couple of weeks, but never got round to doing them. The flowers look a lot better after the few weeks they have lots of blooms. My wife is holding a McMillan coffee morning tomorrow so I thought I would do it so the pots don't look to sad and full of summer annuals that are past there prime.

Well I went down the local bag it yourself Horse Muck route
I said I have a dozen bags x £2, they said no £10 is enough
So I bagged it up and managed to get it stowed,
The lady came back and said, look just come back and get another dozen
                  when you want That's fine

I could not manage back today as too knackered

Finished lifting and dividing hostas. The bed is nearly clear apart from Cutting back some Festuca glauca blue grass and Dryopteris ferns but that can wait till spring. Emptied 2 grow bags and 2 tubs iof tomato plants from the GH, mulched around the acers and bamboo with it.
Hopefully next year the bed will be a tropical theme bed with some cannas, gingers and elephants ears!

Started to clear out the flower bed that I put in earlier this year. I've got some Wallflowers, Pansies and Violas to go in.

Rescued a heuchera from 5 vine weevil babies , so I will have to treat all the pots I thought it looked a bit droopy picked up the pot and the plant fell off , plus one of my new ones !! I will see if I can root it but not much stem to work with.

Been beekeeping as well see other thread. plus a couple of photo's of my two acers in pots I know I know you must be sick of the site of them by now, but they have coloured up really well over the past 3 days enjoy....
