Grabbed a couple of hours in the garden today while it was sunny. Dug out some spent annuals and planted some new acquisitions, looking forward to seeing those come up next year. :) Also partially unblocked a soakaway drain that's difficult to get to, so need to remove some woodwork that's bolted to my house so I can get to it properly. Why do these issues 'snowball'?

One of the rules of Frustration, Sheal, is that one job leads to another, and one problem uncovers another!!:snork:

Cut the lawn after work, tidied up the edges and borders and deadheaded. The grass is growing a lot more slowly now, so unless we have a week or 2 of warm weather, then I reckon another 2 cuts until the lawnmower is mothballed.

Spent the afternoon breaking up an old pool. I will fill it with soil and compost and treat it as a new bed. It will be rich humussy soil and have dappled shade so I have some of the plants ready. It's quite an exciting distraction for the winter months. Astrantias, astilbes, Heucheras, grasses, geraniums, Acer garnet, hostas, dwarf Japanese willow....can't spell it at mo....hellebores, lobelias, all to go in. Any other ideas?

Finally finished assembling a small aluminium cold frame I inherited years ago, which has languished in its packaging in the garage ever since.

Given my abysmal DIY skills and the usual incomprehensible diagram and instructions provided, this was quite a task, taking all yesterday afternoon and another hour or so today to complete.

Still got to put all the glass in though, that will have to wait until next weekend now.

In the greenhouse, planted up some winter salad greens, sown earlier this month. I'm using Mizuna, Tatsoi and Lamb's Lettuce along with Arctic King lettuce. I've only grown Arctic King before, the other three are a first attempt. Any advice on these would be welcome.

Morning jack, are they small plants? Probably better if you pot them up and put in sheltered part of the garden. Many are scented.....you will know when they start flowering. I grow them also for their "blue" foliage which is "evergreen". You did very well getting them for that price

No the plants are quiet strong, and some of the five inch pots have several plants in them, though I am not splitting them up just planting as clumps
(I think it was a case of oh Halloween clear the shelves)

Not sure if the cold due this weekend will be cold enough here ... but I've decided to bring the exotic garden plants into the conservatory for the Winter.

                The conservatory filling up nicely!

Final shots of Jungle - pleased with how much it has filled out in only its first year of planting:
